I N T R O D U C T I O N [gt5p_01] __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ Welcome to this FAQ/Walkthrough for Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. The concept of this game is somewhat of a taster of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5, just like GT4 Prologue was for GT4, however that wasn't an international release. GT5P is somewhat of a small game compared to the previous entries but that's because it is just as it's called, a prologue. That being said though, it's still a pretty packed game with over 70 cars, 6 different tracks and 12 configurations, and 57 events. You'll find that this FAQ is pretty thorough, containing a full walkthough that will guide you through the entire game, from buying your first car to completing the very last event. Every time you need to buy a new car you will be given an in depth analysis of potential cars to buy so you can choose the best one. In the Events section you'll find listings, descriptions, restrictions, and other specifications of all the events in the game, however refer to the walkthrough for event walkthroughs. There is also an overview of the tracks and their configurations in the Courses section, a full car list with each car's specifications in the Dealerships section, the Prize Car List in its own section, and a section called Playing the Game where you'll find tips on increasing your driving skills and general knowledge of the game. In addition you can also find a list of all the cars you will have to purchase to complete the game as well as some other cars worth checking out for fun in the Mandatory and Notable Cars section. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 2. FAQ is complete although there may be another section in the very new future. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 3. F R E Q U E N T L Y A S K E D Q U E S T I O N S [gt5p_03] __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ Q: What is Gran Turismo 5 Prologue? A: It is just as it's called, a prologue of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5. The game wasn't nearly quite finished and fans had been waiting a long time so it seems Polyphony decided to release this game to give fans a taste and keep everyone more patient. It follows the tradition of Gran Turismo 4, however GT4 Prologue was not available internationally like GT5P. Some people call this game a demo but it really isn't. It's not a completely full game but it doesn't cost full price, and it definitely is worth its value. Q: How many cars and tracks are there? A: 74 cars and 6 different tracks and 12 different layouts. The North American release (Spec II) contained 71 cars however the Spec III update added three more. Q: How many cars are on track in each race? A: 16 for the larger tracks and 12 for the smaller ones, including you. Q: Do you have a list of the cars in the game? A: Yes. Check the Dealerships section. Q: How many events are there in this game? A: There's a total of 57 different events. 10 in each class (C, B, A, S) and 17 one-make races in the dealerships. Q: Is there vehicle damage? A: No. It is expected for GT5, however. Q: Are there licenses this time around? A: No, not in Prologue but you can count on them being in GT5. Q: Are there 50 different Skylines again like GT4? A: No, there are actually only three R34s in the entire game. One is stock and the other two are two very different Skylines that are both special tuned cars. There are four other Skylines but they are V35s and one is a special tuned car. Q: Is there any qualifying in this game like the previous games? A: No, you'll always have to start in the starting position you're given. I'd expect qualifying to definitely return for the full game though. Q: What happened to tuning cars like the other games? A: You can't buy any parts for your car since this is essentially just a taster of GT5, but once you beat A class you'll unlock a feature called Quick Tune which will let you tune you car and change settings. Q: Are save files from the disc and downloadable versions compatible with each other? A: No. If you download the game and make some progress, the disc version will not recognize those save files. The same goes for using the disc version first and trying to use your file for the PSN version. Q: When GT5 comes out will we be able to transfer anything over to it like credits, cars, etc? A: No one knows yet. It's possible we could be allowed to transfer over cars but I wouldn't expect anything. Q: Is the Logitech G25 racing wheel compatible with this game? A: Absolutely. Q: Can I use older Logitech wheels in this game? A: Yes, you can use the Driving Force GT, Driving Force Pro, GT FORCE, Driving Force, and the Driving Force EX. As for other wheels I'm not sure, but if they are USB you might as well give them a try. Q: Does this game have a multiplayer mode? A: Yeah, you can play 2 player and race two cars against each other, and you can also play 1 player online against 15 other drivers. Q: How do I get the Spec III version? A: A box should popup after you start the game telling you to update, but if not, go to the Options and find the Network option and select "Download Expansion Data." The download may take a few tries as it's known to fail sometimes repeatedly, but it should work eventually. Q: How do you turn off the race music? A: Go into the options and turn down the race music under the sound category. Q: How do you disable autosave? A: Go to the options menu and go to Utilities in the Miscellaneous section. Uncheck autosave here. Q: What is the song that plays before each race when it shows the car lineup? A: It's called "Check" by Goose. Q: How do you unlock the Ferrari F2007? A: You need to beat S class and then you will be able to purchase it, but you'll need to save up 2,000,000 credits to buy it. Q: Why are some cars right hand drive in this game and others not? A: The orientation of the driver's position is based on where the car comes from. Japanese cars are right hand drive, American cars are left hand drive, and so on. Q: Why is the Ford Focus ST right hand drive? Isn't it an American car? A: There are two real divisions for the Ford Focus: USA and International. The Focus in this game is an International one so it's right hand drive because it's primarily a European car. Q: How do you get the Nissan GT-R Black Mask? A: There's no way to get it. You can see it racing in some events but there's no way to actually acquire it. Q: Where can I find the Ferrari California, Lotus Evora, and GT by Citroen? A: You'll need to download the Spec III update and you'll be able to find them in their respective car dealers. Q: Can you use the tuned car versions for the dealership events? A: No, you must use the standard manufacturer cars. Q: How do you unlock some of the one-make races? A: Every one-make race is unlocked from the beginning of the game. For the manufacturers that don't have one-make races, the Events icon will be shaded. Just because it's there doesn't mean there is an event. Q: How can you look left and right in the in-car view? A: First you'll need to go to the options menu and add these options to the control list under Change Button Assignments. I suggest you make left on the d-pad "Left View" and right "Right View". Doing so will replace the d-pad steering controls which are useless anyway because of the analog stick steering. Q: What is this In-Race Tune Menu you talk about in the Playing The Game section? A: It is a menu where you can tweak a few different settings while you drive during a race. It is not normally setup with the default controls so you will need to set it up yourself. There a few things to do to set it up properly so refer to the Controls segment of the Playing the Game section on the recommended setup. Q: Is it normal that wheels unblur and are perfectly clear when the game is paused? A: Yeah, that's the way the game is. It's odd but it's normal. Q: What are events D-1 through D-17 in the walkthrough? A: They are all the dealership events. They are not numbered like that or anything but I did that myself to make the walkthrough more organizned. Each event in that section of the walkthrough clearly states which car it is for. Q: What do you mean by the driving line? A: The driving line is the most efficient way to drive through the track. It is a common concept in racing and you can turn the driving line on in the driving options menu before a race or any other event, event in Arcade. Q: I can't beat an event. Can you help me? A: Scroll down to the event you're stuck on in the walkthrough and give it a good read. Q: Does this FAQ have individual event walkthroughs? A: Yes it does, in the walkthrough section. Q: What is the best first car to buy? A: The best choice would be the Honda Integra Type R since it's one of the quickest you can get and you'll need it to complete an event in both C and B class. You can also use it for the FF races in C class as well as the Sunday Cup so right away you can complete 7 races of C class with it. The Mazda RX-8 is the best car you can buy at first but you will only be able to complete the four Sunday Cup races with it before you'll need to buy another car since it's FR, and the Integra is almost just as good as it anyway. If you have any other questions, send me an email. Refer to the contact info at the top of this FAQ. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 4. P L A Y I N G T H E G A M E [gt5p_04] __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ This section will help you with the game basics, tips on playing, and other general knowlege. There are four sections here which include Menus, Game Basics, Gameplay Modes, Controls, and Tuning. M E N U S __________________________________________________________________________ This section explains several different menus in detail, including what they lead to and what can be done where. _________ MAIN MENU _________ After the introductory movie you'll see several options which are all listed and explained below. News ____ This is where you'll find any news regarding updates, added Gran Turismo TV content, anything to do with online mode, and anything else. Check out the news every once in a while to see what's going on if you're interested. This, however, requires an internet connection. TV __ This is a whole new feature to Gran Turismo. With Gran Turismo TV you can watch many car related videos from different subscribers, including the famous Top Gear TV show. You do have to pay for the videos however, although there is a bunch of free content in the Gran Turismo section. Once you select the TV option from the main menu it will take a few minutes to load, so don't go to it if you don't truly want to check it out or watch some videos. Online ______ This is where you can play online against other players around the world. Obviously you'll need an internet connection to play online as well as a PSN account. Be a courteous driver instead of ramming people off the road, taking shortcuts, and driving dirty to help make the Gran Turismo community a better place. Rankings ________ Here you can see the world rankings for lap times on each track with each car. When you complete a lap in a time trial in Arcade mode, you will be informed of your rank and you can check it out here afterwards. You can also download replays of the top 10 rankings for each track and each car. Arcade ______ This is where you can play a quick race against several AI opponents or go on a free time trial or drift trial by yourself. Choose your track and configuration (use down and up on the d-pad to change) and then the race mode you want to play. Unlike the previous games though, you'll only be able to use your own cars here so you won't be play arcade unless you have a car. Check out arcade mode in a below section for more details. 2P Battle _________ Here you can race two cars against each other which two people, however just like the previous games you won't be able race against any AI opponents. Events ______ This is where you'll find events to race in once you have a car. Initially there are three classes -- C, B, A -- but once you beat A class you'll unlock S class. Each class increases with difficulty and the speed of cars the higher you go up. Garage ______ Your garage is where you'll find all your cars. Visit here to take a look at your owned cars or get inside them to race. You'll also have to option to go to your garage from the events menu right before you race which is very helpful instead of having to go back to the main menu. Dealerships ___________ This is the place to go to buy a new car. You'll find 26 car manufacturers here initially and five more for tuned cars once you unlock S class. Browse each dealer and choose the cars that appeal to you when you have the credits to do so. Replay ______ This option allows you to load a replay to watch, including one of your own that you've saved or one you've downloaded from the rankings list. Options _______ This is how you access the options menu to change a bunch of things like the units of measure in the game (speed, weight, etc.) and other things like controller/racing wheel settings and sound. Check out the options menu in the section below for a full briefing of what can be done here. Manual ______ Here you can read an in game version of the user manual. Save ____ This is how you save your game on demand. Normally whenever you do anything and return to the main menu the game will autosave so this function is essentially useless, however you can disable autosave in the options menu. If you do that, make sure to save your game with this option whenever you need to. ____________ Options Menu ____________ There are three different sections here with different options, including General, Hardware, Logitech Racing Wheels, and Miscellaneous. The options you can change in these sections are explained below. Arcade/2P _________ This is how you change the number of laps for each arcade or 2 player race. You can move it from 1 to 99 or infinite on the far left. Demo ____ Here you can control all demo options including whether the opening movie plays and what plays in the main menu demos, and also the timing of demos. Units _____ In this option you can change the units of measure used in the game which includes distance, power, torque, and temperature. Vibration Settings __________________ Allows you to turn vibrate on or off, however you'll need to have a controller like the Dual Shock to experience it. Change Button Assignments _________________________ This will allow you to change the controls for the game for player 1 and 2 individually. The button in question will be highlighted in the middle of the screen. Press X and select something to change it. I suggest you keep the standard controls since they're great already, although something you might want to add is the ability to look left at right in the in-car view while racing. I suggest you make the left d-pad button the left view and the right button right view. This will replace the normal steering function of the d-pad but it's useless anyway since you have the analog sticks. Audio Settings ______________ Here you can change many sound settings including the volume of the menu music, menu sound effects, race music, race sound effects, replay music, replay sound effects, and the type dynamic range of the sound. Display Settings ________________ This option will allow you to change the resolution, display mode, brightness, and display size for standard definition. Steering Settings _________________ These settings allow you to change the steering type, feedback strength, and turn power-assisted steering for steering wheels. Driving Force Wheels ____________________ There are several options for different Logitech wheels here including the Driving Force GT, Driving Force Pro, GT Force, Driving Force, and Driving Force EX. These options allow you to change to button configurations and controls for each wheel (player 1 and 2). Network _______ This lets you change network settings like UPnP settings, maximum upload rate, as well as the ability to clear system cache, delete expansion data, check for and download expansion data on startup, expansion data download, and disable advanced download feature. Utilities _________ Here you can change whether the opening movie plays during startup, turn autosave off and on, and delete course records. Once you delete course records, they're gone for good. ___________ ARCADE MENU ___________ After choosing a track in Arcade you are left with the following options. Single Race ___________ Compete against 11 or 15 other cars in a quick race, depending on the race track. Time Trial __________ Race by yourself to perfect your lap times. Drift Trial ___________ A special mode where you are driving by yourself and drifting through different sections of the track. Course Guide ____________ This option includes a watchable video with more details about the track you are at and its surrounding area. There is no course guide for the High Speed Ring since the track and its location do not exist. Be sure to check them all out for the other tracks. Quit ____ Exits back to the track select menu. _________ RACE MENU _________ Start _____ This starts the race or whatever event you are competing in. Replay ______ Here you can watch your race replay once you're finished. Save Replay ___________ Use this option to save your replay so you can watch it another time from the main menu. Driving Options _______________ This allows you to check and change the driving options. See the Driving Options Menu below for more details. Quick Tune __________ This leads to the Quick Tune menu where you can tune your car. You must complete A class to unlock this menu, and remember that you won't always be able to access this menu (for example, in time trial mode). Refer to the Quick Tune Menu below for more details. Exit ____ This allows you to reture to the main menu. ____________________ DRIVING OPTIONS MENU ____________________ AI Level* 1-100 No. of Laps* 1-99, Infinite Transmission Automatic (AT), Manual (MT) Active Steering Off, Mild, Strong Driving Physics Standard, Professional Active Stability Management (ASM) Off, On Traction Control Off, 1-10 Driving Line Off, On Front Tires Normal N1, Normal N2, Normal N3, Sports S1, Sports S2, Sports S3, Racing R1, Racing R2, Racing R3 Rear Tires Normal N1, Normal N2, Normal N3, Sports S1, Sports S2, Sports S3, Racing R1, Racing R2, Racing R3 * - Arcade Single Race only AI Level ________ This controls how skilled the opponent AI is. The higher you go, the more skilled they get. This option is only available during a Single Race in Arcade mode. No. of Laps ___________ Here you can change the number of laps for your current Single Race. I don't recommended setting it too high unless you really want to do that, and infinite is an interesting setting if you just want to mess around, although it's not likely you'll ever do even 99 laps or anything around there. Transmission ____________ Choose between an automatic or standard transmission. With automatic, your car will shift up and down automatically once it reaches the appropriate speed, whereas with manual you will control upshifting and downshifting with R2 and L2 respectively. I definitely recommend at least trying this. It may be a bit difficult at first if you're not used to it, since you'll need to focus on driving through the course as well, but if you keep at it you'll just get used to it and it will become just another part of regular driving. It's very fun too. Active Steering _______________ This gives you more stability while steering if you set it to Mild or Strong, especially at higher speeds. If you want to try it, go ahead, but it shouldn't really be that necessary. Driving Physics _______________ Here you can change between the two driving modes, Standard and Professional. Standard is a more arcadish style and Professional is a more realistic one where you really won't be able to just keep the pedal to the floor all the time. You'll need to learn how to use throttle correctly and drive more like a professional driver. Choose whatever style you prefer, although if you're using mostly Standard, I suggest you give Professional a good try as well. It's hard, especially at first, but you'll get used to it eventually and you may find it more rewarding. Active Stability Management (ASM) _________________________________ This is another handling stability feature, however it mostly keeps your car more stabile to prevent skids and slides. When you lose steering control, the brakes are automatically applied to effectively steer your car where you want to go. Again you can try this out but it shouldn't be that necessary for you. Driving Line ____________ With this option on, a digital line will appear around the track that shows the optimum racing line which is very helpful for beginners. It will be a dotted blue line when you should be entirely on the throttle and solid red when you should be fully on the brakes. If you're new to this series or are having difficulties, turn this on to give you some helpful assistance. Front Tires/Rear Tires ______________________ Here you can select the type of tires to put on your car. During S class races what you put on your car is very important since it will be involved in the calculation of your performance points, so putting on great tires may not allow you to do much or anything power/weight/aerodynamics-wise. At the same time, while non-performance tires like Normal tires may give you more room for these things, your car may not perform well at all. Tires are very important for every vehicle so make a wise choice. Although you can put different tires on the front and rear, I suggest you put the same ones on the front and back for the most consistency and stability. _______________ QUICK TUNE MENU _______________ In the Quick Tune menu you'll be able to keep three different setups: A, B, c. Switch between these from the drop down list at the very top. Once in the Quick Tune menu, the following things can be changed. Power (HP) Variable Weight (kg) Variable Front Rear Tires N1, N2, N3, N1, N2, N3, S1, S2, S3, S1, S2, S3, R1, R2, R3 R1, R2, R3 Aerodynamics* 10-20 20-35 Front Rear Ride Height (mm) Variable Variable Spring Rate 1-10 1-10 Damper 1-10 1-10 Toe (OUT / IN) -0.50-+0.50 -0.50-+0.50 Camber Angle (+ / -) Variable Variable Brake Balance 0-10 0-10 F/R Torque Distribution** Variable Variable Max Turning Angle 30-50 Traction Control Off, 1-10 ABS Off, 1-10 1st Gear Variable 2nd Gear Variable 3rd Gear Variable 4th Gear Variable 5th Gear Variable 6th Gear*** Variable 7th Gear*** Variable 8th Gear*** Variable Reset to default Resets all settings to default * - if your car has aerodynamics (front or rear) ** - 4WD cars only *** - if your car has this many gears Every time you exit this menu after changing something you will first be asked if you'd like to keep your changes and exit the menu. Selecting Yes will keep your changes and take you back to the race menu. Selecting No will bring up another popup menu asking if you'd like to discard your changes and quit. If you select Yes your changes won't be applied and you'll return to the race menu, and if you select no you settings will stay the same and you'll stay in the menu. For more information regarding tuning, refer to the Tuning section below. _________________ IN-RACE TUNE MENU _________________ This is a special menu where you can tune a few things while you're driving in a race. With the default control setup it is not configired, but you can assign all five of its controls to the controller in the options menu under Change Button Assignments -- for a recommended setup, refer to the Controls section below. Anyway, there are five different things in this menu that you can change once it pops up which are: TCS (Traction Control System) 4WDtq (4WD torque distribution) ASM (Active Stability Management) ABS (Assisted Braking System) BRK.F (Brake Balance Front) BRK.R (Brake Balance Rear) With the suggested control setup in the Controls section below, press R1 to pop up the menu during the race and use up and down to scroll through the options. Use left and right the change each setting and press R1 to exit the menu when you're done, or just leave it there while you race. G A M E B A S I C S __________________________________________________________________________ This section will explain some of the basics in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to help you with your racing. Driving Physics _______________ There are two different driving physics in this game: Standard and Professional. Standard is more like the previous games whereas Professional is even more realistic and really stresses car control. You cannot just keep the pedal to the floor on Professional, since you will over rev the engine and bring too much power to your wheels, causing you to lose control. Traction control does help with this however, although you'll still need to be careful especially with higher powered cars. If you've been using mostly Standard, give Professional a try and see how you like it. It will verly likely be difficult at first but give it a chance and see if you can get better at it. Slipstreaming _____________ This is a very important concept in this game, especially for tracks that have you maintain a high level of speed. You may have heard the term slipstreaming before, or drafting as well. Slipstreaming involves positioning you car behind a car in front of you so that the lead car acts somewhat as a shield and blocks some of the air pressure so your car has less drag. Therefore this will allow you to drive faster while behind a lead car, and this is effective within a fair distance from other cars. You will know you are slipstreaming when you hear the wind resistance turn silent as you move behind a lead car. During oval races and on other long straight aways, it is very important to do this to get ahead of other cars more quickly. There are a few challenges and time attacks in the events where you will absolutely need to master slipstreaming to have any chance at winning, so over the course of the game, no matter what track, stay behind lead cars to get the most slipstream you can out of them, and only move around them once you get within passing distance. Drifting ________ Chances are you're familiar with this term. Drifting involves getting your car sideways and keeping it that way through a corner. You can do this by throwing your car into a car through weight transfer, heavy braking and aggressive steering, and also pulling the e-brake. Drifting is not a real part of the event part of the game, however there is a Drift Trial mode in Arcade that you can try out. Just try some maneuvers to see what you can do and you should eventually get better at it, although it may time time. Also remember that it's much easier to drift and get sideways with Professional mode physics. Lower grip tires will also help but it's also harder to keep your car under control with these tires. Driving Line ____________ If you're new to this series or game, you may find the driving line a very helpful feature. During the Driving Options before starting a race or time trial you can turn on the Driving Line. Now when driving on the track you will see a digital line which is the optimum driving line for that track. It will be a dotted blue line when you should be fully on the throttle and solid red when you should be braking. Stay on the line and brake whenever you are shown that you need to and try to accelerate when the line turns blue again. Transmission ____________ You have the ability to choose either an automatic or manual transmission in the Driving Options before every event or arcade race. If you're someone who just naturally uses automatic, I definitely recommend that you give manual a try. First of all, not only does this give you better car control, it will help you with your driving since you will have more control and get a better feeling of being one with the car. At first it may seem like a bit too much of a distaction while driving but don't let that steer you away. After a while you'll just get used to it and it even be a distraction at all but instead just come another part of your driving just like braking and turning. I'd say it definitely makes the experience more enjoyable instead of having your gears shift automatically. With a manual transmission, use R2 and L2 to shift up and down respectively. Camera View ___________ There are four different camera views in Prologue which are: first person bumper cam, in-car cam, roof cam, and chase cam. I suggest you try them all a fair bit to get a good feeling of them and choose the one that you feel most comfortable with. Most people tend to use the bumper cam the most, however I for one use the chase camera the most often by far. It's a very fun view to use, I'd say, and you can also see your car the entire time which is a nice thing as well. The in-car view is beautiful and is another great view which is very fun to use. You even have a rearview mirror and side mirrors to look at without pressing any buttons. The roof cam is an interesting one as well since it's fixed in the exact same position the entire time and the bumper cam is the most basic view but arguably the best for most players. Driving Penalties _________________ Normally you won't get any driving penalties in class C, B, and A, however they are introduced in class S and they are also in the dealership events. Driving penalties consist of three different things: taking shortcuts, contacting walls, and hitting other cars. If you do one of these things while in one of these races, you may receive a five second penalty. What this consists off is cutting your throttle for five seconds, however you will not slow down in any other way like braking, and you can still turn, downshifting and do other things to control your car until you regain power. Whenever you find yourself taking a very wide exit or going off the track a bit, return to the road as quickly as you can in terms of distance to avoid any penalties if necessary. Performance Points __________________ You will unlock the Quick Tune feature once you beat A class which will allow you to tune your cars. When in the tuning menu you can see how much PP, or performance points, you car currently has. Changing either power, weight, tires, or aerodynamics will change your PP. The higher you can get it, the better your car will perform, however remember there are PP restrictions for the races in S class and also in Online mode. Autosave ________ Normally autosave will be on so after you do certain things the game will save. When it is on it will save whenever you finish an event, buy a car, compete in arcade mode, change options, and return to the main menu from online mode. If you ever want to turn it off, you can do so in the Utilities section of the options menu. G A M E P L A Y M O D E S __________________________________________________________________________ Here we will go through the different game modes. ___________ ARCADE MODE ___________ After going to Arcade mode you have the option to choose one of the six tracks and twelve configurations. After doing so you'll be given different race mode options. Single Race ___________ This allows you to compete in a quick race against 11-15 opponents, depending on the track. Access the Quick Tune menu to tune your car if you wish, if you have unlocked it. Time Trial __________ In a time trial you'll be able to roam freely by yourself and try to complete the fastest lap you can. Once you complete a lap, you will be informed of your new ranking if you are connected to PSN. For time trials you won't be able to access the Quick Tune menu and tune your car presumably to make it fair for the online rankings, however even when offline you won't be able to do any tuning. Drift Trial ___________ This is a new edition to Gran Turismo. In a drift trial you will pass through different designated areas on each course where you must drift to gain points. The longer you drift without stopping, the more points you'll get, and your points will be totalled up at the end of each section. Once you complete a drift trial you will be informed of your new ranking if connected to PSN. Unlike time trial mode, you can tune your car here, but only if you've unlocked Quick Tune, since the idea here is drifting and not getting quick laps. _______________ SIMULATION MODE _______________ There is no actual "Simulation Mode" but the class C, B, A, S events make up the Simulation mode in GT5P, just like the previous games. First all you have unlocked is class C, and you'll need to complete every event in order to move on the class B, and so on. There are also 17 car dealer events for you to compete in as well. Between the main four class events there are three different types of race modes which are the following. Race ____ This is the most common type where you will race in either a 12 or 16 car field, depending on the size of the race tracks. Eiger Nordwand and London have 12 cars field and the rest have 16 cars. The idea here is obviously to pass everyone and win the race, however finishing in the top three will be good enough to complete the event. Time Attack ___________ In these events you will start in the pits with a full field of cars racing around on the track, however you won't be racing them. You'll have ten minutes to beat the target times listed in the top right of the screen. To complete the event you will only need to beat the bronze target time, however you should always aim for gold. To get gold in these events requires skill, patience, and practice. You will also need to utilize the other cars on track to trim your lap time. You can do this by driving directly behind them so they reduce the drag that reaches your car and therefore will will be able to drive more quickly -- this is called slipstreaming is is very common in motorsport. Once you beat the target time you can wait for the time to run out or just quit the event. One Lap Mission _______________ These are missions where you'll start in dead last of a 16 car field and you'll have one lap to win the race. Finishing in the top three will complete the event, however always aim for first. These events are quite difficult and get even more difficult in the later classes. They will require a lot of skills, patience, and practice much like the time attacks and you will likely get frustrated a lot during them. If having too much difficulty, it may be a good idea to stop for a while and try again another time. It may be difficult to get to first and win the race but when you do it is a very satisfying feeling. ___________ ONLINE MODE ___________ If you have internet access and a PSN account you can play online races with people around the world. Unfortunately you can't make your own rooms or races and must play one of the several different events in the online mode list. There are only two different types of events during online play which are listed below. By the way, after participating in online events, the game will not autosave whenever you're in online mode so you must return to the main menu to save your game and keep any earned credits. Race ____ This is the most common type of event online. Most events will be races consisting of 8 to 16 players including yourself. If you read the events carefully the will say what type of cars can be used, what track it is on, which physics mode is used, and how many players the maximum is, as well as the performance points amounts for certain events. Choose the events which appeal to you the most and if you have the right cars to race in those events. Go to your garage in the sub menu to choose your car before you start the race. Every once in a while these events will change. Time Trial __________ There will usual be a few time trial events in the online menu where you will race by yourself aiming to get the best time you can to compete with other people around the world. Before entering, go to your garage from the event sub menu and choose the car the time trial is meant for. These time trials will be closed after a certain amount of time and new ones will come later on, just like the races. You can check the rankings while a time trial is still in progress or once it is closed by selecting Rankings from the event sub menu. C O N T R O L S __________________________________________________________________________ The following are the default controls using the SIXAXIS and DUALSHOCK controllers. X Accelerate, Select Square Brake Cricle E-brake, Back, Cancel Triangle Reverse L1 Rear view R1 Zoom in R2 Shift up (manual) L2 Shift down (manual) Right Analog Stick Accelerate, Brake Left Analog Stick Steering, Left, Right D-Pad Left Steering, Left D-Pad Right Steering, Right D-Pad Up Turn Ghost off/on Start Pause Select Change view These are the default controls, however there are some other controls that are not used with this setup. This includes the left and right views and the in-race tuning menu (RA function) which you'll find in the Change Button Assignments menu. If you want to be able to look left and right from the in-car view or outside of it, add the "Left View" and "Right View" to your control setup. Normally steering takes up the left and right D-pad slots but the D-pad is useless for steering anyway so you can make left view left and right view right. If you want to keep the D-pad steering however, you can make left and right view L3 and R3 respectively. As for the in-race tuning menu, there are five separate controls for it so you'll need to really find a special way to slip it into your control setup. You'll pretty much have to sacrifice the left and right views if you've set that up, unless you can figure out another way to set up everything. Anyway, the setup I suggest you use is to make R1 "(RA function) Show menu". As for the (RA function) Select + and - controls I suggest you make them up and down on the D-pad respectively, which will have you sacrifice the Ghost turn on/off control (unless you can fit it somewhere else). Then make the (RA function) Adjust + and - controls right and left on the D-pad, sacrificing the steering or left/right controls if you have them set up. By all means, try another setup if you can figure out a way to have every option you want in here. T U N I N G __________________________________________________________________________ This section will walk you through the basics of tuning and setting up your car. The following descriptions can be found scrolling across the bottom of the screen in the Quick Tune menu for each of the following categories. Power _____ Allows you to change the characteristics of your engine. Increasing this setting gives you more power and increased torque at high RPM, but will reduce power and torque at the low to middle RPM ranges. If you change the setting lower, power and torque will be reduced at high RPM but you will increase your engine's output at the low to middle RPM range. The extent of change to power and torque will vary depending on whether the car is equipped with a supercharger. Adjusting engine tuning will affect the Performance Points of your car so you should adjust the settings to cater for the regulation of the events you wish to participate in. Weight ______ The overall weight of the car can be changed with this option. If you raise the number the car's weight increase, and conversely lowering the number reduces the weight. A lower weight will improve acceleration, stopping power and cornering ability. This setting will affect your performance points. Tires _____ Selects which tires are equpped on your car's front/rear wheels. There are nine types of tires, ranging from the lowest-grip N1 to the ultra-high-grip R3 racing tire. Downforce _________ Adjusts the front/rear downforce. The higher the number, the greater the downforce, and the better your car will corner. Changing this setting will affect your performance points. Ride Height ___________ Adjusts your front/rear ride height. The lower the ride height, the better the car will perform, but set it too low and you risk having too little room in your suspension stroke, causing the car to hit the ground. You can also change the car's weight distribution by adjusting your front and rear ride height. If the front is lower, your car will oversteer, and if the rear is lower, it will understeer. Spring Rate ___________ Adjusts the front/rear spring rate. The higher this number, the harder the springs, and the less the car will move up and down. When your ride height is lowered or you are using higher grip tires, you will need to increase this setting, but springs that are too stiff will result in less contact between tires and track, so be careful. Damper ______ Adjusts your front/rear dampers. The higher the number, the more strongly they will compress the springs, and more of the tire will be in contact with the road. However, if set too high, the springs will become too stiff, and less of the tire will end up in contact with the road. Toe ___ This option adjusts the front/rear toe angle. When viewing the car from above, a toe-out setting would show the wheels facing outward from the car and toe-in would face inward. If the number is + this will set to toe-in, with - being toe-out. If you set the front wheel to a slight toe-out angle, steering response will be slightly reduced however tire grip will also be improved. Camber Angle ____________ The camber angle is the angle between your wheels and the vertical axis when looking at your car from the front. You can adjust the camber angle of your front/rear wheels here. The higer the value, the greater the camber angle, and more of the tires will be in contact with the road, but set it too high and braking may be impeded. By changing the camber angle of your front and rear wheels, you can adjust your car's grip balance for cornering. Brake Balance _____________ This adjusts the response of your front/rear brakes. A higher number will make your front/rear brakes more senstive, but with low-grip tires, this may cause your wheels to lock. Also, by making your front brakes more sensitive than your rear brakes, you can deliberately encourage your car to oversteer. Also, by making your rear brakes more sensitive than your front brakes, you can deliberately encourage your car to understeer. F/R Torque Distribution _______________________ Adjusts the torque distribution between the front and rear wheels of a 4WD car, and allows power to be individually distributed. The number indicates the amount of torque delivered to the front wheels. If you increase torque deilvered to the front wheels, your traction will increase, but your turning ability will be affected. On the other hand, if you reduce front wheel torque, your car will handle more like an FR drivetrain vechile, but your traction will be reduced. Set this value to suit the particular course and event you are participating in. Max Turning Angle _________________ Adjusts how your wheels turn in response to your turning the steering wheel. The higher the max turning angle, the more your wheels will turn. This is usefull when drifting, as it makes it easier to countersteer. Traction Control ________________ Here you can adjust the strength of TCS (Traction Control System), which detects and actively prevents wheelspin. The greater the number, the stronger the TCS will be. If you set this to a high setting the car will be more stable but your acceleration will be reduced. ABS ___ Adjusts how your ABS (Active Braking System) responds by deciding how much tire grip is used to aid stopping, and how much is used to help you when cornering. The higher the value, the better your grip while cornering, but the lower your grip when stopping. Please note that this value will not change the actual amount of grip of the tires you are using. Gear Ratios ___________ Sets the ratio of your 1st-5th/6th/7th/8th gear. The lower the ratio, the better the acceleration, but the lower the speed you can reach, meaning that you have to change gear more often. Take your engine's powerband and the peculiarities of the course you are driving on into accoint when adjusting this setting. Final Gear __________ Sets the ratio of your final gear. The higher the ratio, the slower your acceleration, but the higher your top speed. Conversely, the lower the ratio, the quicker your acceleration, but the lower your top speed. Bear in mind the peculiarities of the course you are driving on, and pick the right ratio for the situation. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 5. C O U R S E S [gt5p_06] __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ There are a total of only six tracks in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, however twelve different configurations. They are all listed below. HIGH SPEED RING _______________ Length: 2.49 Miles Elevations Difference: 27.9 ft Longest Straight: 0.56 Miles Corners: 6 This is a staple in the Gran Turismo series. While it was missing in Gran Turismo 3, it's been a recurring track since the beginning and now it's more beautiful than ever. This track is really for high speeds and the first straightaway is a perfect place for slipstreaming all the way down to the first corner past the first bend. Your exit on the S corners before the tunnel is important since it's a long rundown to the next real corner and that corner is crucial as well since you'll be on the throttle until either the first bend or the first real left corner. Races on the High Speed Ring consist of a maximum of 16 car grids. There are two variations of the High Speed Ring. Forward Course: This is the normal goes, going forward over to the banked slight bend. After the first corner is the bridge followed by the tunnel after the S corners, and you'll rejoin the main straight after the next banked corner. Reverse Course: This is the alternate route where the first corner is a hard right banked corner leading down to the tunnel and the S corners. After that you'll move over the bridge and then down towards the finish line after the next banked corner. DAYTONA _______ This is a new edition to the Gran Turismo series. There have been many superspeedways in the past, but this is a real track in Daytona Florida, popular because of the Daytona 500 NASCAR race held there. It's a very long oval track also with a road course section and you'll reach very high speeds here. Up to 16 cars can race together on this track. Below are the different variations. Superspeedway: Length:2.50 Miles Elevations Difference: --- Longest Straight: 0.57 Miles Corners: 3 This is the main layout and the one that NASCAR uses for the Daytona 500. It consists of two full banked corners at both ends and one slight bend where the finish line is. Depending on your car, you may not even have to brake during this entire course. If you do have a quick car however you may need to let off the gas or tap the brakes during the high banking corners The Road Course: Length: 3.56 Miles Elevations Difference: --- Longest Straight: 0.36 Miles Corners: 16 This layout uses the majority of the oval plus an infield section just after the start/finish line. It's a fairly generic layout and then it leads back onto the oval not far after where you came off, and before the final banked corner you will reach left-right chicane. FUJI SPEEDWAY _____________ This is a very popular track at the base of the famous Mount Fuji. It's well known for having the longest straight of any race on the Formula 1 calendar, although it's only raced on every other year in F1, sharing the Japanese Grand Prix with Suzuka. This track was greatly renovated in the early 2000s and this is the final result. The track contains many tricky corners, notably the final corner which leads back onto the massive straight. It's very important to get this corner right since your speed will definitely matter once you get on the nearly a mile long straight. Another tricky corner is the first one, where it is very easy to brake late and fly past the entrance. Make sure you brake early enough to hit the apex. Up to 16 cars can race at a time on Fuji and there are two different setups which are below. F Setup: Length: 2.84 Miles Elevations Difference: 121.4 ft Longest Straight: 0.92 Miles Corners: 16 This is the setup that is used in Formula 1. It contains a chicane towards the end before the S turn near the final corner. It's important that you brake in time for this chicane since you may get understeer and miss the entrance or hit the barrier. GT Setup: Length: 2.81 Miles Elevations Difference: 121.4 ft Longest Straight: 0.92 Miles Corners: 14 This is the other setup at Fuji which doesn't have the chicane towards the end of the track. Instead, it's just a simple right turn and you won't have to slow down that much. EIGER NORDWAND ______________ Length: 1.51 Miles Elevations Difference: 236.2 ft Longest Straight: 0.16 Miles Corners: 11 This is another one of Gran Turismo's creations. This is a real location in the Swiss Alps however there is no track here. The configuration here just adds pavement to the mountain. This is a fairly twisty track with a lot of elevation changes and you'll mostly be driving at low speeds. It is a tricky track, especially since it may be hard to drive as fast as you can on slow tracks. Since this is a smaller track it is only able to have 12 car grids as a maximum. Eiger Nordwand has two configurations. Forward Course: This is the main course where you'll start on a mini straight and fly off a ramp, getting some airtime. You'll reach a bunch of twisty corners before you descend and move over a small bridge towards the tunnel upon where you'll start gaining elevation as you reach the final corner and back over the finish line. Reverse Course: In this reverse layout, the start/finish line is in a different position. Instead of around the long corner and before the ramp, it's position on the other side of that corner, so you'll start heading towards the tunnel where you will start descending. After the long left corner outside of the tunnel you'll reach the twisty part of the track where you'll climb back up and then head towards the finish line again around the tricky final corner. SUZUKA ______ This is a very well known circuit in Japan and has hosted the Japanese Grand Prix for a long time, although now it cohosts the Formula 1 race with Fuji Speedway. It is a track that is a favourite of many Formula 1 drivers and it is definitely a brilliant track. It consists of many types of corners with different sections consisting of both low and high speeds. The racing grid on this track is a maximum of 16 cars. There are two different setups at Suzuka, unlike the three in Gran Turismo 4. Suzuka Circuit: Length: 3.61 Miles Elevations Difference: 132.2 ft Longest Straight: 0.75 Miles Corners: 20 This is the main setup which is the full course. You'll start on the main straight approaching First Curve which is a bit of a tricky and important one. Next comes the twisty S bends and then the overpass after a higher speed section. An intriguing part of this race track is that it is a figure 8 layout in that the track moves over itself right at this overpass before the slow speed hairpin. After the hairpin is the very long spoon curve which requires good positioning all the way down to the two tight corners before the long back straight. At the end of that straight comes the very high speed 130R corner, following by a chicane which then leads back onto the main straight. Suzuka Circuit East Length: 1.39 Miles Elevations Difference: 110.2 ft Longest Straight: 0.50 Miles Corners: 9 This is a shortened course of Suzuka that only uses the main straight and the S bends with a little connecting piece of road that leads back to the main straight after the S bends. It's still a good track but fairly short and missing a lot since the other part of Suzuka is the longer portion of the track. LONDON ______ Length: 1.19 Miles Elevations Difference: 47.6 ft Longest Straight: 0.20 Miles Corners: 8 This is another created track, however located in downton London. It is a short course that moves through narrow streets and consists of many tight corners. Since this is a smaller track only a maximum of 12 cars will be able to race on it at once. There are two different configurations in this London course. Forward Course: This is the main setup which leads to a hard right corner which is less than 90 degrees so it requires low entry speeds. Next is a short section which includes a left and then a quick right before a longer right bend that leads to a series of tight 90 degree corners. Afterwards comes a short straight and then some sort of right-left chicane that goes back onto the main straight towards the finish line. Reverse Course: In this alternate route we start facing a right-left chicane that leads to a small straight followed by a bunch of boxy corners. Next comes a long lefthander and a quick left-right corner which leads to the final hard left less than 90 degree corner and back onto the main straight. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 7. W A L K T H R O U G H [gt5p_08] __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ INTRODUCTION __________________________________________________________________________ All right, welcome to Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and this walkthrough section that will guide you through the entire game. Prologue is just as its title implies, a prologue of the upcoming Gran Turismo 5. It is a rather short game and some like to joke about it being a glorified demo or something similar, however this game truly has a lot more than that to offer. It's only a fraction of what GT4 was and what GT5 will be but it's a nice experience to get you ready for GT5. This walkthrough will guide you through each class in depth, from helping you decide which cars to buy when you have a choice and informing you of cars you'll need to buy and the best time to buy them, to guiding you through each event with individual walkthroughs. This walkthrough takes you through the events somewhat out of order since you'll only be able to complete certain events with certain cars. Therefore the events are essentially covered in the order of the cars you should buy at certain times. If you're just looking for car recommendations for each event you will find those in the Mandatory and Notable Cars section, however this walkthrough covers that aspect in much more depth, examining all suitable cars before buying. Please note that this walkthrough is for the Spec III version of Prologue. If you have Spec I or II there may be circumstancial differences, so I suggest you update to Spec III in the Network section of the options menu (Download Expansion Data). So after you are introduced to the main menu you will be looking at "My Page." You can see in the top left corner of the screen that you have 35,000 credits, much more than you did in the previous games. In order to compete in races, you must purchase a car. For some assistance, read the following section to help you decide which car to buy. By the way, if you wanted to try out Arcade mode, you can see it in the menu but you can't play it yet. Unlike the previous games in the series, you can only use your own cars in arcade mode, so you'll have to buy a car to be able to try out some arcade. __________________________________________________________________________ CLASS C EVENTS [eve_c] __________________________________________________________________________ In order to compete in your first event, you'll need to buy a car. BUYING YOUR FIRST CAR __________________________________________________________________________ Are you feeling a little giddy? It's always an interesting part of Gran Turismo games to buy your first car. Of course it's not going to be a monster or anything since you don't have that much cash, although 35,000 is quite a bit more than you'd usually get so that's a great start. From the main menu, visit the Dealerships to get started. As you can see there are a total of 26 car manufacturers available to you but of course your selection right now is limited. I'm sure you'll be tempted to check out some of the dealerships like Ferrari and see what's for sale there, however of course you'll only be able to purchase a lower class car for now. Currently, there are 13 different cars that you can buy with your 35,000 credits and they are listed below with some specifications. Credits Car Power Weight Drivetrain _________________________________________________________________ 14,180 Suzuki Cervo SR '07 63HP 820kg FF 14,600 Suzuki Cappuccino '95 63HP 690kg FR 15,000 Daihatsu Copen '02 63HP 830kg FF 16,300 Suzuki Swift Sport '07 123HP 1060kg FF 26,200 Mazda Atenza Sport 25Z '07 167HP 1470kg FF 27,300 Honda Integra Type R '04 216HP 1180kg FF 28,500 Mini Cooper-S '06 167HP 1180kg FF 28,980 Mazda RX-8 Type S '07 246HP 1310kg FR 31,400 Alfa Romeo 147 TI '06 147HP 1280kg FF 31,500 Volkswagen Golf IV GTI '01 147HP 1280kg FF 31,900 Citroen C4 Coupe '06 177HP 1330kg FF 32,000 Ford Focus ST '06 221HP 1430kg FF 32,750 Volkswagen Golf V GTI '05 197HP 1336kg FF First of all, you'll notice quite a difference from the cars at the top of the list to the cars towards the middle of the list and also the value of these cars as well. I highly recommend staying away from the low performance cars for your first car and sticking to the better ones, since this way you'll be able to compete in more events firsthand and earn more credits to buy others cars more easily. One car seems to stand out from the list as not only the best car, but the best deal out of them all, and that is the Mazda RX-8. At only 28,980 you're getting 246HP and not too heavy of a car as well. It's also FR which means it has a front engine and rear wheel drive, which is generally seen as a superior drivetrain to FF (front engine, front wheel drive). The next best deal appears to be the Honda Integra Type R at only 27,300 with 216HP, and then rounding out the top three is the Ford Focus ST with 221HP for 32,000. Now these are, in order, essentially the best cars you can get for your money, however that's just looking at performance for dollar. It may be more useful for you to use strategy for choosing your first car. If you take a look at the events in class C under Events at the main menu, the only events you can compete in right now, there are four Sunday Cup events for all-comers, which includes all cars, two events for FF drivetrain cars, two events for lightweight cars, one event for the Suzuki Cappuccino only, and one event for the Honda Integra Type R only. So with this in mind, if you choose the RX-8, right away you can only compete in the four all-comer events since it has an FR drivetrain and isn't a lightweight car either of course, whereas the Focus ST can compete in those four races plus the two FF events, and the Integra Type R can compete in those six races plus the one event for the Integra only. So by choosing the Integra, because of strategy it ultimately becomes the best bang for your buck, and also, you have to by this car in order to complete class C, whereas you'll never need to purchase the other two cars. When I played the game the first time, I simply bought the best car I could which was the RX-8 and I don't regret it. In fact, I ended up having to replay the game after I accidentally deleted my PS3 user file the first day I had the game and I did the same thing by buying the RX-8 first. It's a great car and it performs better than the Integra, although if you want to use your money the most wisely and buy as little cars as you can or save up for others, the Integra is the way to go. In the end I do recommend the Integra for your first car but remember there are also other options. If you go with the RX-8 or the Focus ST or anything else, be sure to buy the Integra Type R to complete C-8 as well as the FF races, unless you decide to use another car for the latter. The Integra is the most economical way to do it, but feel free to do it your own way if you have the money to spend or are willing to win enough races (including replaying some) to get through class C your own way. Remember that through this walkthrough I'll be mentioning certain cars to use for certain events, and while some you have to use, others aren't absolutely necessary so feel free to choose your own cars whenever you can. Try your best to have fun and choose the cars that appeal to you, although keep in mind it will take you longer if you buy other cars. However that shouldn't really affect your reasoning. When I first played I bought the cars I wanted and that's really the way you should do it. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ C-1 This is a very simple race on the High Speed Ring. Starting in 4th, make good use of slipstreaming by driving behind the other cars until you pass them. You should be able to get ahead of all three cars very early on the first lap and from then on it's a stroll. C-4 This race is even easier since you're racing on an oval at Daytona Speedway with a superior car. Once again starting in 4th in an 8 car grid, be sure to make use of slipstreaming again, although with just raw speed you can beat this one. Your pedal should be to the floor for this entire race. C-5 Now on the Suzuka East Course, you'll start in 6th in a 12 car grid. This event is much more challenging than the previous two, although it's still nothing to sweat over. It may take you two laps to get the lead but you have three laps to race so everything should be fine. Slipstream on the main straight whenever you can and stay on the racing line. C-7 Here you will start 4th on Eiger Nordwand which is a rather short and winding course so the cars shouldn't be too far apart. This event is a bit more difficult than the first (since the track is more complex) but easier than the last one. You really shouldn't have any problems here and should be able to get to first early on the first lap. C-8 This will be probably the most challenging event out of these seven events you can use the Integra for, and of course you can only use the Integra here. This is the first of many one lap missions in the game. You'll start dead last in 16th place on the Daytona Speedway oval and you'll need to pass every car to get gold in this event. To simply pass the event you only have to get third for bronze, but it's not that difficult anyway once you know what you need to do, although it will probably take a bunch of tries. The most important thing in this event is slipstreaming -- you will absolutely need to slipstream to have any chance of winning this. As soon as you start, stay right behind the car ahead of you until you are able to pass it, which should only take a few seconds. As soon as you're past, move directly behind the car ahead. As you reach the banking for the first corner you may notice the closer car to you start to move in to the left while the car(s) ahead may stay towards the outside at first. As you near the close car, switch slipstreaming positions to the outside car to maximize the slipstream and so you continue to increase your speed and set yourself up to pass that car as well. Once you move around these bunch of cars, quickly get behind the next car in the line, even while you're cornering -- you need to get as much slipstream as you possibly can. Always look past the first car ahead of you to see which car to slipstream next. In general if there are two cars close to each other ahead of the closest car, choose the one that will give you the most useful slipstream. Usually that will be the car that's farther away. So stay behind the original car until the last moment and then dive under the lead car and overtake him. Once you get to the corner exit you should be in 9th position and may have a bit of a gap until the next bunch of cars, but you should have some momentum from all the slipstream you just got. Quickly get in line with the next car and again, choose the best car to slipstream off ahead of that car. Usually the original car will be in the middle with a car on the left and on the right, so take the best path as long as the car is close enough to provide effective slipstreaming. You should be around 4th by the time you reach the next banked corner and if you are you should be able to pass the 3rd placed car during the corner while slipstreaming him, allowing you to pass the next two cars on the final straightaway. Remember, always be slipstreaming -- always. If you're finding you're not able to win this event it's because you're not getting enough slipstream. It is very important. It's also important not to hit other cars since that will slow you down. Be quick with you actions with your pedal to the floor for the entire lap, and although it may take several tries, this shouldn't be that hard for you to beat overall. C-9 Now you will start 6th in a 12 car field on Eiger Nordwand going in reverse. This is much more difficult than the previous Eiger event since you'll need to pass more cars and the reverse track is more difficult. It is really important that you learn this track very well since it is rather complex and mistakes are very costly because you only have two laps to pass five cars if you want the victory. This is one of those races in which you'll probably be passing the leader very close to the finish line on the last lap and maybe on the last corner, or even right before the finish line. This one may take a few tries but just keep trying to perfect your driving and you should find yourself getting quicker and quicker. C-10 In this event you will start 4th on the Fuji Speedway GT setup. This is somewhat of a difficult track, at least compared to other tracks you've raced on previously, but it is quite long so you will have a lot of time to get past the three cars ahead of you over the two laps. You should be in first place by around halfway through the first lap but if not there's no real worry since you have a lot of time. Obtaining gold in all seven of these events will get you 85,000 credits. That's enough to buy a pretty good car, however you're not done C class yet and there are only three events left which consist of using lightweight cars. Strategically you should hold onto the extra money for now by not buying a better car just yet and instead focusing on these three remaining events. You will need to buy a lightweight car but it won't cost that much anyway. BUYING A LIGHTWEIGHT CAR __________________________________________________________________________ Okay, so now we get to one of the less interesting parts of the game, which is purchasing a car to compete in the Lightweight K Cup. Those who played through the previous Gran Turismos, however, should be familiar with this chore by now. There are only four cars that you can use for the Lightweight K Cup which are the first three cars listed below plus the Daihatsu OFC-1 which cannot be bought. In fact, it is actually the car you'll receive as a prize for completing all the class C races so it will be essentially pointless by the time you get it, unless you want to replay the Lightweight K Cup. Credits Car Power Weight Drivetrain _________________________________________________________________ 14,180 Suzuki Cervo SR '07 63HP 820kg FF 14,600 Suzuki Cappuccino '95 63HP 690kg FR 15,000 Daihatsu Copen '02 63HP 830kg FF --- Daihatsu OFC-1 '07 63HP 820kg FF Every car has the same power so you'll need to look beyond just that together with the price. As you can see, the Suzuki Cappuccino clearly appears to be the best deal here. It's only 420 credits more than the Suzuki Cervo SR but weighs 130 less kg with the same horsepower. Weight is definitely a factor when dealing with lightweight cars and a lighter car definitely has an advantage here. The Cappuccino is also FR which is again a superior drivetrain. You might be thinking that by purchasing an FF lightweight car you can compete in the FF races as well. Well, these lightweight cars are no performance machines and trust me, you won't be able to do much damage with these cars in those FF races and their only real use is for the Lightweight K Cup. By the way, you'll notice there's an event for the Cappuccino only so you'll have to purchase it anyway. So it is by far the best choice to make for your lightweight car and will allow you to compete in the two K Cup events plus the Cappuccino only event. Together with your Integra Type R, if that's what you bought, you'll be able to complete class C without purchasing any other cars, allowing you to save up money for better cars to use in the next class. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ C-2 Starting 4th on the High Speed Ring, right away you'll see how small and slow the Cappuccino is, if that's what you're using. Anyway, like always, make good use of slipstreaming and stay directly behind lead cars. It won't do as much since you're not moving as quickly but it will still give you extra speed. It shouldn't be hard at all to get to first on the first lap, but if you don't you have plenty of time anyway. Overall, although this race may take patience since your car will be very slow, it's quite easy. C-3 This will be your hardest challenge yet and is actually one of the most challenging events in the game, at least for getting gold. Once you start the event in your Cappuccino you may be surprised to see the car lineup which consists of far superior cars than your own. However this is not a race but instead a time trial so those quicker cars will be of great assistance to you in order to complete this and especially if you're aiming for gold. You'll have ten minutes to complete this time trial event and what you want to do is reach the target times at the top right of your screen which are as follows: Gold: 1'41.000 Silver: 1'43.000 Bronze: 1'50.000 To complete this event all you need to do is beat the bronze target time, which really isn't hard to do at all. The silver target time is much more difficult although still not that hard to obtain, whereas the gold target time is very difficult to achieve and may take you quite a while to get. You'll start in the pits at the High Speed Ring and it's your responsibility to get out to the track. Once you get there you'll probably notice a car ahead of you and another a bit further behind. Since you just came out of the pits your first lap won't be anything special, but at least you may learn some basics on this first lap. Every car here is quicker than you, however that means you'll be able to slipstream off them just after they pass you to give you a boost of speed. If you complete a whole lap without any slipstreaming you'll notice you may only be able to achieve a time around 1'43 which may be good enough for silver, but if you're going for gold you absolutely need to master slipstreaming and you also need a bit of luck. By luck I mean there needs to be a car for you to slipstream off of on the main straight once you start your lap. The beginning section of the track up to the first real corner after the left bend is too long of a stretch to go without slipstreaming so this is the part where you will need it the most. If you're lucky enough to have a car to slipstream off at other points of the track, that's perfect as well. No matter where you are on the track, if you can slipstream, absolutely do it. Another key part for slipstreaming is after the S turns by the tunnel and that stretch up to the final corner, and if you can stick with a lead car it may leave you another slipstreaming opportunity during that corner and on the back straight down to the finish line. If you are efficient enough with the Cappuccino and are able to have significant slipstreaming on the beginning straight and the tunnel area following up to the finish line, you should have a great shot at reaching gold. You won't always be this lucky though. Some laps you may only have one car to slipstream off of or cars may not pass you in the most effective areas. Something you can do is look for a car or a bunch of cars on the track map and slow down and let them catch up a bit so you can use them the next lap. Do not let them get too close since you'll need them next lap. However, never slow down for another car on a hot lap. Your speed and momentum is worth more than slowing down for a bit of slipstreaming. Another thing to remember is to allow cars behind you to slipstream off you if you need them quickly. If you're at the tunnel area or the back straight and need a boost, stay in front of them to give them a boost and slowly move out of the way for them to pass and then dive under their tail. Keep in mind this may not be as useful for longer straights like the main straight since if cars get a good slipstream line off you they'll disappear in front of you more quickly. If you're finding things a bit difficult, another thing you can do if you just want to get it done is to stay in front of cars and allow them to bump for you a short boost. They may stay behind you for a decent amount of time and can continue to give you short boosts, however a smart thing to do is let them pass after they do bump you since they won't move as quickly past you anymore -- what this does is give you more time to slipstream off them and get more speed. After the first few laps you may be left out in the cold for a bit, give or take a car every now and then. If you haven't gotten any slipstream and are going for gold, you might as well sacrifice the lap if no one is close enough to you for the beginning straight of the next lap. So slow down a bit to allow cars behind you to catch up, but do this late in your lap so you can better judge when they'll be of use to you on the main straight. Always make sure you set it up so these cars absolutely do not pass you before the finish line since that wastes valuable slipstreaming time later on the main straight. It's ideal to pass the start/finish line in front of a car and then slipstream off it as it passes. If you ever have two cars in a pack pass you, that's great. It should help you keep up with them for a bit and maximize your slipstreaming time. If you stay with a car on the main straight you should be able to catch up a bit through the first hard left corner before the bridge, and that will allow you to slipstream up to the S turns where you may be able to get some more slipstreaming in and after in the tunnel. Always remember, the more the better. This event is not only about general driving skills but also involves a bit of luck and mastering slipstreaming and its timing. Follow all these tips and give it many tries and you should eventually get it. If not, you can take your bronze or silver and just move on, then come back when you're ready to try it again. By the way, once you beat the time you can either keep going at it for a better time or just exit and you will receive your trophy. C-6 This time you'll be starting 6th on the reverse High Speed Ring course and things will be more difficult than last time, although you'll have three laps this time instead of two. You really won't need to use much of your brakes here since your car isn't really fast at all, so make sure you're not slowing down too much on corners. Always slipstream whenever you can on the straight and even in the corners -- that is the key to this race. Get the most you can out of every car and wait till the last second to go around them so you have the most momentum. You'll need to be quite patient here since you will be making your way through the field very slowly. This event is also a bit difficult and you may not reach first until near the very end of it. If you make good enough use of slipstreaming however, you may find yourself first by the end of the second lap. Remember that's it's not exactly over once you're in first though. You got here through slipstreaming and your opponents can do the same, and they may really surprise you. One thing you can do to eliminate some of this risk is to move off the driving line so the cars behind you aren't slipstreaming off you. They won't follow you off the line so there's no worry of that, although they can still slipstream off each other if they're close enough. Just keep an eye on the cars behind you and make sure they don't get past. If you find it difficult, you can always wait till the end to pass the lead car so he won't have a chance to pass you back, although that may be being a bit risky. Once you complete these three events along with the other seven with the Integra or multiple cars, you'll complete class C and receive the Daihatsu OFC-1 as a prize. Eh, pretty mediocre prize but at least you get to move on to class B. The OFC-1 is a pretty useless car but even if you wanted to sell it, you won't be able to since Prologue doesn't let you sell prize cars. You can sell others cars if you wish however, but always be careful what you sell. I personally suggest just keeping all your cars for now since you can always get more credits by winning races, but it's up to you. But absoutely do not sell your Integra Type R just yet since you will still need it for an event in class B and also a dealership event. Speaking of that, you have now unlocked class B so go ahead and check out the events that you'll be competing in just ahead. __________________________________________________________________________ CLASS B EVENTS [eve_b] __________________________________________________________________________ After completing all ten events with gold in class C, you should have 121,000 in prize credits minus your Cappuccino and any other cars you bought, plus the money remaining from your first car. So you probably have somewhere over 100,000 credits right now if your only cars were the Integra and Cappuccino. That's definitely enough to buy a pretty good car but let's take a look at the events in class B before you buy anything just yet. There are four Clubman Cup races just like the Sunday Cup in class C which are for all comers, a new 4WD series with three races, two exclusive car target time missions -- one for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR and one for the Nissan GT-R --, and another one lap challenge for the Integra Type R only. The all-comer Clubman events still have most of the same cars from the later Sunday Cup events from class C, so you can still easily beat them all with your Integra. So right away that leaves you with five events to complete with the Integra. You might want to keep in mind that you're going to have to buy at least two more cars in this class (Evo IX and the GT-R) so if you have the money you can buy one of those right away and use it for the Clubman events. Or if you want, buy any other car you wish since those races are for all-comers. Skip to the next section if you're looking to buy a new car. Do as you wish but either way, you can knock off five events right away with your Integra. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ B-1 Here you'll start in 6th on the Suzuka East Course. It shouldn't take much longer than a lap to get to first since this event is rather easy, much like the Sunday Cup races. Finish the three laps and claim your gold trophy and prize money. B-4 This time you're in the middle of a 12 car grid going reverse on the High Speed Ring. This is another very easy event and you should easily be first by the end of the first lap. Make use of slipstreaming to pass cars more quickly and then just stroll to the finish once you're in first. B-6 This is another one lap challenge in your Integra, and this one is more difficult than the last one. This time you're on the High Speed Ring, still starting 16th as usual. Just as you did on the oval, you need to maximize slipstreaming to get the win. Right at the start, follow the first car and then very quickly dive around it to position yourself behind the next car before the bend. Follow the closest car as the pack starts to corner. You should start to see some of the closer cars move to the inside while the farther ahead cars stay out before later turning in -- once you get close enough, move behind these outer cars and slipstream off the closest one (forget about the inside cars and just cruise past them while slipstreaming the outside cars). You should be taking the outside route through the pack of cars but make sure you don't hit the last car in the pack by moving around it to the right. By now you should be in 10th and slipstreaming the next pack of cars on the rundown to the hard left corner. Dive through the inside of the corner and you should come out in 7th while slipstreaming off the next car over the bridge. Take the inside of the corner over the first kerb and the same for the next corner. You should be entering the tunnel in third while slipstreaming off the next car. Stay on him through the slight bend on the outside where you should overtake him and dive behind the leading car on the last corner. Stay with it and keep behind the leading car as you come onto the back straight where you should be able to overtake him before the finish line. This challenge is a very difficult one so it may take a while to beat. Just keep trying while mastering slipstreaming and following the strategy in here. B-7 Now we get to the full Suzuka course, starting in 6th again. Once again this is another simple event where you should have no problem reaching first place on the first lap. B-10 This event is just as simple as the previous Clubman events, if not easier since it's on the Daytona Road Course. It shouldn't be hard to pass everyone in the road course section of the track, but if not, slipstream off the lead cars in the oval section to get to first and take your victory. Now there are five more events left, including three 4WD races and two single car events for the Nissan GT-R and Mitsubishi Evo IX respectively. So now it's time to look into buying these cars or another 4WD car. BUYING A 4WD CAR __________________________________________________________________________ There are three 4WD only events in this class so you are going to need to buy a car with an all wheel drive drivetrain. Currently there are ten different 4WD cars for you to choose from which are listed below, plus the Nissan GT-R Prototype which you cannot buy and will receive as a prize for completing S class, so effectively it's of no use right now. Under its specifications it doesn't say what its drivetrain is but it can be used for 4WD races so it is in fact 4WD, just like the actual GT-R. Its power and weight figures were obtained from the Quick Tune menu which you will unlock after completing A class. Credits Car Power Weight Drivetrain __________________________________________________________________________ 35,700 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR '05 276HP 1410kg 4WD 36,540 Subaru Impreza WRX STI '07 303HP 1470kg 4WD 38,220 Subaru Impreza WRX STI Type RA '05 276HP 1390kg 4WD 42,400 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR '07 276HP 1540kg 4WD 54,500 Lancia Delta HF integrale Evoluzione '91 207HP 1350kg 4WD 61,000 Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-spec I '02 276HP 1560kg 4WD 64,900 Alfa Romeo Brera 3.2 JTS Q4 '06 256HP 1750kg 4WD 65,400 Audi TT Coupe 3.2 '07 246HP 1410kg 4WD 77,700 Nissan R35 GT-R '07 473HP 1740kg 4WD 166,700 Audi R8 4.2 FSI '07 414HP 1560kg 4WD -- Nissan GT-R Proto '05 447HP 1730kg 4WD As you can see there is a clear winner in terms of the best car which is the Nissan GT-R. It is the second most expensive car in this list but when you compare around, you are getting a lot of power and a great car for your money. The Audi R8 is a great car as well but it doesn't perform up to the same level as the GT-R and costs more than twice the amount. If you're looking for a cheaper car there are a bunch of nice Subarus and Mitsubishis to choose from. The Evo IX GSR is the cheapeast one although the best one in that group up there would probably be the '07 WRX STI. If you want something even better, there's the R34 Skyline GT-R but that will cost more credits. Anyway, I already briefed over this in the previous section. You will need to buy the Nissan GT-R and the Lancer Evo IX in order to clear this class so those are essentially your two best choices, at least strategically. To be frankly honest, the Nissan GT-R is by far the best car to choose from this list and is one of the best and most fun cars to use in the entire game, so that car certainly won't let you down even when you don't have to use it. The GT-R or the Evo IX will both allow you to complete four events (in addition to the four Clubman events) by itself which are the three 4WD events and the one car challenge for each car. All in all, that's five events you can complete with the two cars combined, not counting the four all-comer Clubman Cup events, so that's enough to complete this class. However, I don't want to be close minded and tell you to just buy those two cars since you need to. You will need them to get through this class, but if there's another car in that list that you want to purchase, by all means go ahead. Just remember that you'll need to buy these two cars and with them, you can clear the entire B class and move on to class A. You could already complete the Clubman Cup events with the Integra like shown in the previous section with the event walkthroughs, but if you didn't, go ahead and use your GT-R or Evo IX or any other car you bought for those. The Evo peforms better than the Integra and RX-8 and the GT-R is by far better so either way you should have no troubles whatsoever, since those events are already simple enough with the Integra. Moving on, you can now clear the rest of this class with your new cars. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ B-2 For this event you can use either the Evo IX or the GT-R you bought for the other events or any other 4WD car you choose. With the GT-R it will be extremely easy since you'll have a much superior car than anyone on the grid. Even with the Evo it's still a simple race. Starting in 6th on the High Speed Ring, you should make your way through the field fairly easily on the first lap. B-3 This is another time attack event where you'll need to beat a target time while driving with other cars on the track. You now have a better car in the Evo IX and the field consists of some quicker cars mixed with some slower and similar ones which is a good thing. You'll start behind the start/finish line at Eiger Nordwand and you'll have ten minutes to beat the target times which are as follows: Gold: 1'15.000 Silver: 1'18.000 Bronze: 1'27.000 This time it won't be nearly as hard as the Cappuccino challenge. You don't even need any slipstreaming to get gold if you know the track well enough and don't make mistakes, but some slipstreaming here and there will always help. Unlike the Cappuccino even you shouldn't be having many cars pass you since the cars are more balanced and the AI isn't as skilled at this track. When you do get overtaken by a better car, you'll have a lot of time to slipstream off it and you may even have a chance to pass it again. It's not that you really want to repass these cars but you'll have no choice to in order to keep your flying lap alive, since slowing down for them will kill your lap. So whenever you can repass, just get it over with so the car is out of the way. Anyway, just get in a solid lap and you should get the gold. If that seems to be too difficult, maybe sacrifice a lap and wait for a faster car behind you before you dart to the finish line so you have someone that will pass you so you can slipstream off them, or just keep driving laps until you get a good break and get in some good slipstreaming to get gold. B-5 This is the second 4WD race and it takes place on the Daytona Speedway oval. You'll start in 6th and it will be a very straightforward race. You should be very familiar with slipstreaming by now so getting to first should be a simple process as usual. B-8 This event is the GT-R only time attack. You'll start in the pits at the High Speed Ring and you'll have ten minutes to beat these target times: Gold: 1'12.000 Silver: 1'15.000 Bronze: 1'21.000 This one is pretty hard. The silver should be easily attainable even without any slipstream, but you'll need to have a really good lap and good positioning with slipstream in order to get the gold. Now that you're in a GT-R, most of the cars around you are much slower and that makes things more difficult since you won't be able to get as much slipstream off them and instead you'll be passing them too quickly. If you're finding things aren't really working, what you should do is find one of the faster cars to slipstream off of like the F430, Corvette, IS F, R8, and the other GT-R. If you just keep trying to beat the time from the beginning, you'll reach the Corvette as well as the IS F after a couple laps. If you slow down right after exiting the pits you'll notice the R8. Keep waiting and the Ferrari and the other GT-R will come eventually. The F430 is the quickest of them all so I suggest waiting for it and sticking with it so that you can use it to slipstream off on the next lap. Stay close enough before the final corner so that you can slipstream off him from the start line and as far as he'll take you. By slowing down for cars like the F430, many other cars will pass you and you'll find you'll get to repass these cars after you pass the Ferrari, and they give you more opportunities to slipstream. If you get in three or more good slipstream stints and have a good solid lap, you should have a good shot at just breaking 1'12. B-9 In the final 4WD event you'll be introduced to the London city track. You'll start in the middle of the 12 car grid and have three laps to get to first. It may be a bit difficult at first since this track may be a bit tricky, but you shouldn't have too hard of a time here. This event is quite simple if you know the track, and even if you don't it's not a huge task to finish first. Now you've cleared class B and you'll receive the BMW Concept 1 Series tii '07 as your prize. Now it's time to move on to the next class. __________________________________________________________________________ CLASS A EVENTS [eve_a] __________________________________________________________________________ Taking a look at class A, there are four Gran Turismo All Stars events, two American Muscle events, two Japanese Championship Events, a time attack event with the BMW M3 Coupe, and a one lap challenge event with the Ferrari F430. Note that even though you may have a few Japanese cars, they can't all be used for the Japanese Championship. The mighty godzilla GT-R is deemed too good for that championship and the Integra can't be used either since it's not as powerful of a car as the ones allowed. However, the Lancer Evo IX GSR that you bought for class B can be used for this event and it's a pretty good car so it should be good enough to get you through those Japanese events. However, if you want to change things up then definitely go for it. Some other great Japanese cars that can be used for that event include the R34 Skyline GT-R, RX-7, Fairlady Z (350Z), and the NSX Type R (the Honda, not the Acura NSX which can't be used here). If you bought the RX-8 earlier you can use that as well but you will need to be very good at this game to use it effectively, so it's definitely not recommended. As for the Gran Turismo All Stars series, your GT-R will be plenty enough to win those races but feel free to buy another car for those races if you wish. You'll need to buy an American muscle car and an F430 for this class so you can use these for the All Stars races in addition. But like previously said, the GT-R will certainly get you through those events with ease. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ A-1 This is a simple event on the Daytona Speedway. Your GT-R will do you very well here and although you start 16th you should be able to get to the front within two laps by slipstreaming. If not, you have five laps to do it anyway. If you already bought your F430 for this class, or your American muscle car, it will be great for this event and the other All Stars events too. A-4 You'll start 16th again in the second All Stars event, now on the High Speed Ring. Slipstream your way through the pack to reach the lead cars where you may notice there may be a bit of a gap where you'll need to rely on just your own speed through the track to catch up and win. A-5 This is the first Japanese Championship event and it's somewhat of a challenge. The NSX Type R will give you the best results here but any of the other cars listed above as well as the Evo IX GSR will get the job done. You'll start in 16th place on the Fuji Speedway GT setup and you'll have three laps to win the race. Make use of slipstreaming on the long main straight and throughout the track to win the event. A-7 Now you'll start 16th at Suzuka in a three lap race which is more of a challenge than the previous two All Stars events. If you're in a GT-R or something of that caliber and you stick to the racing line, it should be quite straightforward however. A-9 The second Japanese Championship event is a three lap race at Suzuka where you'll start in 16th as usual. This race is similar to the last Japanese race so you'll need to be patient. It may take some time to get to first but you should get there eventually. A-10 The last All Stars race takes place on the Fuji Speedway F setup over three laps. The F430 and especially the GT-R opponent in this race will really start to take off as the race goes on. If you're not driving one of them too, or something similar like a Ford GT or Corvette Z06, you'll have a lot harder time trying to catch them. I suggest you just jump in your GT-R if you weren't using it already and this race won't be so difficult. You should catch the lead GT-R on the second lap but if not you'll have another lap anyway. Now that you've completed these events, you'll need three more cars to get through the remaining five events, if you haven't bought them already. BUYING AN AMERICAN MUSCLE CAR __________________________________________________________________________ You'll need to buy an American muscle car to get through this class so let's look at your options: Credits Car Power Weight Drivetrain __________________________________________________________________ 48,500 Ford Mustang GT '07 299HP 1630kg FR 90,400 Dodge Viper GTS '02 449HP 1569kg FR 94,500 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 '06 503HP 1421kg FR 99,770 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe '06 509HP 1565kg FR 149,880 Ford GT '06 550HP 1451kg MR I can tell you right away that the Mustang will not get you through these two American Muscle events -- it's simply not quick enough to get to the front. If you want to buy the car for other reasons, go ahead, but you'll need to buy one of the other cars to finish the American Muscle series. The Ford GT is clearly the best car but it comes at a cost, however you will need to purchase the Ford GT to complete an event in S class anyway. So that essentially makes it the car to buy right here, although there are different dimensions to look at as well. You don't absolutely need the Ford GT just yet so if you want to try one of the Vipers or the Corvette, you can do so and save some credits for the Ferrari F430 you'll need to buy to complete the one lap challenge in this class. While the Viper GTS is the cheapest and least powerful of the big four cars, it can certainly get you through the two events. The other Viper is a bit quicker and the Corvette is quicker than the both and an all around great car. If you want to be creative, choose the one that you want to buy the most, but the strategic way is to simply choose the Ford GT if you have the credits since it's easily the best and will be needed in the next class anyway. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ A-2 This first American Muscle event takes place on the reverse High Speed Ring course. You'll start in 16th and have five laps to win, and if you're driving a Ford GT it should be very easy. The Corvette isn't as good as the Ford GT but it is still very quick, and while the Vipers aren't as quick as either and will take longer to get to first position, they're still beasts and won't give you much trouble. As always this track is all about slipstream so always dive under lead cars whenever you can to get extra speed. A-6 Now we're on the Daytona Speedway oval where things should be very simple and straightforward. Whether you have a Viper, Corvette, or Ford GT, all you need to do is just slipstream off all the cars in front of you to lead the pack over the finish line. You'll have five whole laps to do it which should be a very simple task. Now you just have two events left which are the one car only events for the Ferrari F430 and the BMW M3 Coupe. So purchase those cars at the dealerships if you haven't already and get ready to complete class A. If you don't have enough credits yet, replay some of the other races to stack up some credits. I suggest doing this with A-1 which should take around five minutes and give you 35,000 each time. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ A-3 This time attack takes place on the Eiger Nordwand reverse track and you'll have ten minutes to beat the following target times in your M3 Coupe: Gold: 1'14.000 Silver: 1'16.000 Bronze: 1'24.000 Now if you're a good driver you should be able to get gold without any slipstreaming, but while you won't get much slipstreaming in this event anyway, try to capitalize on it any time you can to get the most out of every lap. You should be passing other cars fairly quickly so it's not necessarily an advantage to have all these cars out here with you, since they'll get in the way some of the time. Whenever you can pass a car, just quickly do so since slowing down to keep slipstreaming off it won't help your time. Other than slipstreaming, there are three keys areas of this track that I think are the most important for lowering your lap time. The first part is the first slight bend and the corner before the tunnel. You should be going flat out through that first slight bend but make sure to position your car correctly so you're turning from the outside and through the apex. Once you reach the corner before the tunnel, you need to get on the brakes from the outside and if you slide into the corner it gives you a lot of momentum ahead. The trick is to start sliding even before the corner though so you drift through the apex and come short of the right wall and don't hit it. The next part is the long left corner right after the tunnel. If you just brake into it and try to accelerate through it you'll find it's longer than you may think so you'll need to get a great entry from the outside and accelerate mildly towards the apex and then get on the throttle when the exit opens up. Probably the best way to get through this corner is another slide, using your momentum to drift through the first part of the corner from the outside towards the inside, and then accelerate through the exit. Lastly, the section right before the finish line is very important. Make sure that when braking for the first left turn after the semi straight that you go deep into the corner and follow the outside of the road until the entry of the next corner opens up. Driving on the inside here just won't work and will kill your sector time since you won't have a good entry. So after the braking, wait for the right time to accelerate through the next corner's opening and cruise over the finish line. If you're having trouble you can always try to find the Lexus IS F, Corvette, GT-R, or the F430 and set yourself up so you can get in some good slipstreaming in key areas like the tunnel and the last straight. Other cars will mostly get in the way but these four cars are all quicker than the M3 so it will be to your benefit to follow them, despite the fact that you yourself may be quicker than these drivers around this track, particularly through some of the corners. Anyway, keep at it and you should trim down your lap time. Gold is a decent challenge to get but not as difficult as some of the other challenges. A-8 How are you liking your first Ferrari in Gran Turismo? Pretty damn sweet. This event takes place on the Daytona Speedway road course and you'll need to pass all fifteen cars in one lap. Remember to maximize slipstreaming on the oval sections of the track and even in the infield whenever you can. You'll need a solid infield drive together with all the slipstreaming you can get on the oval to get gold in this challenge. You'll notice a lot of Ferraris in this event which gives you a nice preview of what to look for when you buy more Ferraris later in the game. Anyway, you'll need to be very aggressive in this challenge to have any chance at winning. You really need to be in the positions mentioned below at certain times to be able to win here, so if you're still a bit behind then you most likely won't win. Either way though, keep at it until the end to see how close you get and so you also get more experience with the entire event. You should overtake the first two cars around the first corner and should be passing the F40 for 12th place around the U turn ahead. You should be able to reach 10th by the exit of the next hard right after the left bend as well. Try to get ahead of the Corvette for 8th by the exit of the next corner, although if not you should be right on his tail and passing him. Now back on the oval get on the tail of the SL 55 AMG and as it turns in to the left of the track, pick up on the M3's tail and overtake these two cars on the right side. Placed in 6th on the rundown to the chicane, you need to pass these three cars right now and while entering the chicane so you can start bearing down on the R8 ahead. Right when you reach the R8, stay on its tail as you head back to the oval. You'll need to pass him rather quickly through the chicane exit or very early on the banking in order to have a shot here, but make sure you get enough slipstream off him to allow you to reach the leading F430 in time, since it's quite a distance ahead. If you're really close to the R8 already, get what slipstream you can and overtake him, but keep in mind that passing the R8 so quickly may even hurt your chances since you'll need a lot of slipstreaming to reach the F430 before the finish line. It's best to be starting to slipstream off the R8 as you head back towards the banking instead of starting to pass him there. Stay directly behind him until you start to get close enough to pass, where you should position your car so you're half behind the R8 but still slipstreaming, allowing you to overtake him to the left without hitting him. As you exit onto the main straight you should be close enough to the F430 to start slipstreaming off him. You may be surprised at how quickly you'll catch up but you will still need a lot of road. Stay on his tail until the last moment and you should be able to pass him before the finish line for gold. After completing class A you will unlock an ending movie and receive the Nissan Skyline Coupe Concept '07 as a prize, however the game is not done yet. You've now unlocked S class and the Quick Tune menu which will allow you to tune your cars before races. For more information on Quick Tune and how to use it, check it out in the Playing The Game section of this FAQ. Anyway, now it's time to move on to the final class. __________________________________________________________________________ CLASS S EVENTS [eve_s] __________________________________________________________________________ This class is for the big daddies out there. If you had trouble with the previous classes then you're going to have a lot of difficulty with this class. First things first, this class involves a lot of tuning so you'll need to tune your car a bit before racing with the new Quick Tune option. Looking at the events list, right away you'll notice "P.P" before a certain number for most of the events, like P.P700, P.P680, etc. What P.P means is performance points, so these events are performance restricted. Now performance points are not just focused on power. Power is a big factor in calculating it but weight, aerodynamics, and tires are also involved in its calculation. Remember that PP and HP are in no way interchangeable and also that you can have one car with higher HP than another but at the same time less PP than the other, and the same goes for all the other factors in its calculation. Another thing is to remember that just because two cars have the same PP, it does not mean they will perform at the same level. This is generally for cars not in the same class as others, however two cars within the same class and with the same PP should perform somewhere around the same level. That being said, HP and weight are much better to judge for overall performance. For cars with stock specifications you will mostly be aiming to increase your performance points to match the restriction, but with tuned cars you will find that a lot of the time you'll have to hamper your car's performance to reach the PP restriction. So try to get a feeling for which of the four performance settings are most important to you so you have a better idea of how to detune your car. Quick Tune is not just about changing the four settings mentioned above, but you'll also find several other things that you can change such as ride height, spring rate, gear ratios, etc. Now these settings will not affect the PP level of your car, but they will change how the car drives and ultimately performs. For a more in depth introduction and analysis, check out the Quick Tune part in the Playing The Game section of this FAQ. Anyway, the Quick Tune menu can be found in between Driving Options and Exit on the race menu in every event. Another new addition to this class is the inclusion of driving penalties. So if you find yourself making wall contact, taking shortcuts off the track surface, or ramming other cars you may receive a five second driving penalty wherein you will simply lose your throttle for five full seconds. Now your car won't do anything to slow itself down but you just won't be able to touch the accelerator during the penalty. You will still be able to turn, brake, shift gears, and do everything else you normally can but you will not regain throttle control until the time is up. While you are incurring the penalty, you will also turn transparent and other cars will be able to move through you and vice versa. When the time is up you will regain control and then shortly become solid again to everyone else on the track. The concept of penalties does make sense but you will most likely find yourself not guilty in many situations. Unfortunately, the penalty system is very flawed and sometimes you may receive penalties that perhaps you did not deserve and other times you arguably should have received a penalty but did not. This includes some shortcut penalties where you move too far off the track and a lot of the time ramming penalties. The shortcut penalties are definitely deserved if you really try to take a shortcut somewhere, but sometimes when you just take too outside of a line and move slightly off the track you may still receive a penalty despite it being an error that in no way gave you an advantage but instead quite the opposite. To avoid track shortcut penalties, you must keep at least one wheel of your car on the track at all times. If all four are off, don't be surprised if you're penalized. The other issue is the ramming penalties and you will probably see a lot of retarded penalties here. Normally if you ram into an opponent from behind seemingly with the intent of pushing him off the track, you'll probably get a penalty, and the same goes for pushing a car to the side. Most of the time if an opponent hits you and because of that you ram a car the game will see this and not give you a penalty, however sometimes there's only so much you can do and if the opponent hitting you isn't quite the direct reason you rammed another car you may receive a penalty. However sometimes you may find yourself turning to the inside of the track during a corner and you may touch another car on your way there and receive a penalty. This even includes turning into a corner and an opponent coming from behind and making contact with you -- yes, you can still get a penalty for this even though you've done nothing wrong. You may find some other problems but just try your best to deal with it. You're not alone in getting retarded penalties so try to just remember that. Another thing is that only you can be penalized and your opponents will never receive a penalty no matter what they do. From the event menu you can see the penalty level for each race specified by a number from 1 to 3, and this just means how harsh the penalties will be. Anyway, if you check out all the events, there are seven events with PP restrictions, including the four Tuned Car Battle events and the three Supercar Festival events. The starting grid for the Tuned Car events includes all tuned cars so you should definitely look into buying a tuned car for those, however the Supercar Festival will still have regular supercars and you can still use some of the top cars you have like the F430, GT-R, etc., but feel free to use tuned cars as well. While some of the supercars won't even reach the full 680PP limit for the Supercar Festival, even such as the mighty F430, they should still be good enough to get you through the races (and the F430 certainly will). The other three events rounding out the class include two time attack events with the Mine's BNR34 Skyline GT-R and Ford GT, and a one lap challenge event with the Ferrari F40. The biggest section of this class involves tuned cars so I recommend you buy a tuned car before any of those cars. Some of your current cars may be good enough to compete in the Tuned Car Battle but it will be quite difficult, especially since most of the regular cars can't reach the maximum performance points allowed for those events. Anyway, your regular supercars will be enough to get you through the Supercar Festival so you won't need to buy another car just yet. If you do want to buy another car or even a tuned car, go ahead. Tuned cars can be used in these races so if you have enough credits right now you can go ahead and buy one, in which case the next section will be useful to you. Either way, there are three events you can complete without doing anything further. The best cars to use out of the mandatory ones that you should still have are the F430 and the GT-R. If you already bought your Ford GT that you'll need to buy this class anyway, that will be great as well. Another great car for this series would be the Corvette Z06 if you have it. Make sure to visit the Quick Tune menu before the race to set your car at the 680PP limit or as close to it as you can get. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ S-2 This event takes place on the Fuji Speedway F setup and you'll start at the rear of a 16 car grid. This is S class but this event is still a rather easy one. You shouldn't have much trouble in getting to the front in a lap or two but you'll have three laps to do it. Beware of getting any penalties, especially ramming from behind, and you should be moving through the field rather quickly. S-5 Now we're racing on the reverse setup of the High Speed Ring and it's the usual deal here too. Always get a lot of slipstreaming on the straights and anywhere else you can and stay clear of the barriers to avoid any contact penalties. You'll have five laps for this race but it shouldn't be hard to pass all fifteen cars ahead of you within two or three laps at most. S-9 Again, nothing you haven't seen before here. On the Daytona Speedway oval, just maximize all the slipstreaming you can get, even in the corners, and stay clear of the barriers or you may get a penalty. As you move through the 16 car field you'll find larger gaps between cars and packs of cars in some areas. Try to get a lot of slipstreaming if you can to get the most you can until you reach the next pack of cars. Towards the end the last bunch of cars may be separated by a bit so be smart with your slipstreaming and you shouldn't have any trouble getting to first in three or maybe four laps tops. Now that you're finished with these races you'll have four tuned car and three one car challenge events. All three of the cars cost quite a bit so I definitely suggest buying a tuned car first so you can compete in those four races and start winning more credits to purchase those cars. BUYING A TUNED CAR __________________________________________________________________________ If you visit the dealerships after you unlock S class you'll notice you've unlocked five more manufacturers, which are all for tuned cars. Those five manufacturers contain the only tuned cars in the game so you'll be choosing between them. Between those five manufacturers there is a total of 16 cars for you to choose from which are listed below. All the "/Tuned" cars and the 350Z RS and Ford GT Test Car can be found under Concept by Gran Turismo in the dealerships. PP changes when you change the settings of each car, and while you can always change your horsepower, weight, aerodynamics if your car has any, and lastly tires, you are restricted to certain tires for each event so there is no real common ground and set measure of PP. All four Tuned Car Battle events use the R1 tire restriction however, so I've listed each car's stock performance points with R1 tires on the front and rear. I should say though that the PP listings should not be taken heavily and they're there just so you know the stock level of PP the car has (which isn't really important itself anyway). Keep in mind that you can change the PP for every car so these PP numbers are in no means set in stone. In general, lower PP cars won't be able to get as much high end PP as cars with higher stock PP, although there are limits to PP in the S class races anyway. When choosing your car I suggest you look at power and weight the most heavily, together with the price if that's a factor for you. You may wonder where all the HP and weight figures here came from since almost all the tuned cars give no information for that, but each car's weight and power can be found in the Quick Tune menu. Anyway, let's get down to buying a tuned car. As you can see we have quite a difference all over the board. Right off the top I can tell you that the Cappuccino and the Swift Sport will not get you through the Tuned Car events since they are just not quick enough. They won't even reach the 680PP limit for the Supercar Festival, and certainly not the 700/750PP limit for the Tuned Car events. Then there are other cars like the 350Z RS, Skyline Coupe, and even the Art Morrison Corvette that won't be able to take you all the way. Now you can clear the first two Tuned Car events with them since the PP restriction is lower at 700 and the field consists of lower classed tuned cars, but they just won't be enough to get you through the two 750PP races. Every other car has at least a good ability to win all four Tuned Car races for you, but to win with some cars will simply be more challenging and maybe only within reach of very experienced players. For example, the tuned Lotus Elise and the Elise 111R, as well as the Clio, are cars that are capable of winning all four races but to win the latter two will be a very tough challenge with them. These three cars, especially the two Lotuses, are very light cars but have limited speed, so if you have any plans on using them you'll need to be quick as hell through the corners. You'll almost always be losing ground on straights, even while slipstreaming, so you'll need to make it up during other parts of the track and that's truly where these Lotuses shine. Now they are very hard to drive since they really pull to the side when you turn into corners and it's very easy to glide just off the track at corner apexes and get shortcut penalties as well due to this. However, you can really use this handling to just throw your car into corners and it can really help you gain some ground. But like I said, these cars are very challenging to drive so I don't really recommend them to you unless you really think you're experienced enough to handle them. Even my first time through the game I tried the 111R as my first tuned car other than the mandatory BNR34 and it was very tricky for me to get used to. Onto the two Evos, these cars may really surprise you -- they sure did surprise me. While they don't really have that much power it's amazing how quick they can go. 4WD gives you a lot of grip through corners and although these cars aren't as quick on the top end, they're really quick through corners. At the same time though, you need to be a really good driver to get the most out of these cars. They're not nearly as hard to drive as the two Lotuses, but the average driver just won't be able to get all the speed out of the Evos. You may find that in the latter two Tuned Car races it may take a bit of a longer time to make it to the front but it can definitely be done. That completes the analysis of the cheaper tuned cars that will cost you 100,000 credits or less, and while these are nice cars, especially the ones I most recently mentioned, the rest of the cars are just more effective and will allow less experienced players to beat events more easily. The better your car, the more of a chance you have to win. And in general, the better you are, the less of a great car you need. So if you're not as experienced, you'll probably need one of the following cars to win all the Tuned Car events whereas the previous ones probably just won't be any good unless you get enough practice with them. Firstly, the Ford GT Test Car is the best tuned car in the game. It's powerful, it's fast, and it's a great racing machine, but it will cost you at 300,000. It's also very tricky to control however, since it's not very stable through corners and really likes to get sideways, even when you don't want to, so you may want to consider that when buying. The Test Car has so much power that you'll have to detune it quite a bit to get under the PP restriction, even for the 750PP races. The next best car I would have to say is the Amuse S2000. The Ford GT just has so much top end speed which is hard to beat, but other than that the S2000 is just about as good as the GT. It's a really fast car with great acceleration and is just a joy to drive. It is a very stable car through the corners and performs very well overall so you may want to buy this over the Ford GT if you're less experienced with car control. It's 50,000 less than the Ford GT as well so you may want to consider getting the S2000 if you want to save a little as well, since it's just about as good and like I said, a great all around car. I'd put the Viper and Corvette next in line on the best cars list and they perform around the same level and cost the same amount at 200,000. They both have a lot of power and speed which gives them a great advantage but they are also able to hold their own during the corners and are not too sluggish or anything like that. Lastly there's the two Skylines that round out the tuned cars and they are both very good cars as well. The Blitz is a faster car in terms of speed but the BNR34 has better handling and may be easier to drive, so it comes down to whatever you prefer, and of course they are also 50,000 apart as well. However, you absolutely have to buy the Mine's BNR34 to complete the time attack challenge in this class, so that's definitely something to consider as well. Overall, if you have the money, I recommend you just buy the Ford GT since it's the best, although at the same time the Amuse S2000 can definitely give it a run for its money. The GT is quicker high end but the S2000 is better through corners so make your choice on what seems more tailored to your driving style. The S2000 saves you an extra 50,000 since the GT costs a whopping 300,000 so that is something to consider as well. Remember that you will have to buy the Mine's BNR34 Skyline GT-R to get through this class so make sure you buy that either now or sometime later. It's good enough to get you through the four Tuned Car events but GT, S2000, Viper, and Corvette are arguably better for that task. If you don't have a lot of money and really want to buy something around the 100,000 range, the two Lancer Evolutions are what you're looking for. Overall the Evo X is the better car with more power but the Evo IX is very good as well. As I originally said I don't recommend the Lotus Elise or Elise 111R unless you're really confident with car control and being able to throw the car through corners without messing up. With these lower classed tuned cars there is really not much room for error especially during the latter two races, so if you're going to use them you're going to need to be quick and without driving errors. If you have a lot of credits on your hands, buying two cars is never a bad thing. There are two different tuned car class events, which are the two 700PP events and the 750PP events. Instead of detuning a Ford GT Test Car or an Amuse S2000 for the 700PP races, buying something like an Evo or a Clio is definitely an alternate way of going about that you may consider. That pretty much sums it up, so choose your car(s) and head to the events page to tackle the Tuned Car missions. If you haven't completed the Supercar Festival yet, feel free to use your tuned car for those races as well (the walkthrough for those events is in the previous section above). Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ S-1 This is as simple as it gets for the Tuned Car events. You'll start at the back of a 16 car field at the High Speed Ring and you'll have five laps to get to the front. This isn't that much of a challenge especially since you're racing against the lowered class bunch of tuned cars, even if you're in a lower class tuned car as well. As always, get as much slipstream as you can on the straightaways and navigate around slower cars during corner entries and exits. Since you'll have to detune cars like the Ford GT Test car and Amuse S2000 to compete in this race, there's not that much difference between those and lower classed tuned cars here. Whatever you're using, just as long as it's not a Suzuki, you should be able to get to first in around two or three laps, although it may take a bit longer with something like a Skyline Coupe or 350Z RS, which aren't really recommended for any of these races anyway. Either way, make sure you set your PP at 700 before the race or as close as you can get to it, and stay clear of barriers to avoid any barrier penalties. S-4 This time around you'll be racing on the Daytona Speedway road course over three laps, starting in the usual 16th place. Despite only three laps to race, this is a very big race course and you'll have large sections on the oval to make up time through slipstreaming. At the same time you'll need to be quick in the infield section and avoid any ramming penalties by smashing into other cars. Keep a quick line and dive under any nearby cars when you reach the oval to maximize slipstreaming. Watch out for barrier penalties by staying clear of the outside wall on the oval. The last corner before returning to the oval for the first time is very important since you'll be on the gas all the way down to the chicane before the final curve. Be sure to enter slowly while under control and waiting for the apex to open up before you accelerate through it and onto the banking. Achieving first place in two laps shouldn't be very difficult but you'll have another lap to do it anyway if you have trouble. S-7 This is where these events start to get really difficult. Higher powered cars like the Ford GT Test Car, Amuse S2000, and the tuned Viper and Corvette are definitely recommended here since this circuit has a very long main straightaway and other fast portions. The two R34 Skylines are also very good here as well so don't be afraid to use them either. Anyway, you'll start in 16th on the Fuji Speedway F setup and you'll have five laps to complete the race. You'll notice right away that you're now racing against top tier tuned cars, as well as some of the lower class ones mixed in, so you'll need to be very quick to win. Also be sure to set your PP to 750 before the race. Having a quick car like the six previously mentioned will be a lot of help here since the main straightaway is so long. Always slipstream off cars ahead of you but be very aware of the first corner since it may come very suddenly sometimes and it's very easy to miss if you're not focused. You must also remember not to take shortcuts here whether you're trying to or not. If you take even one or two penalties it can make a world of difference and the race may seem impossible. Do not cut any corners or have wide exits and you'll have a hell of a better chance to win this race. Places to watch out for this include the first corner, the next left hander including the entry and exit, the first corner at the chicane, and the first right hander after the chicane, particularly the exit which is the entrance to the next corner -- stay on the inside of the curb and you'll be fine. Despite your power, you may notice lead cars still able to be quicker than you even while slipstreaming off them. This is normal however, and there's nothing you can really do about it other than slipstream to stay as close as you can. Overall this event may take you several tries but practice makes perfect. Just like I stressed earlier, avoiding penalties is an absolute must to have a chance here, and if you can do that and give a solid driving performance you should find yourself taking the lead in two to three laps in one of the higher powered tuned cars. Maybe a bit longer, especially in the lower class cars, but you have five laps anyway. If you do take too long though, you may find the leading cars may get even further ahead, so it's important to be on top of your game so you can pass them as early as you can to prevent this. S-10 This event is arguably the toughest actual race in the game. The previous Tuned Car event is quite difficult too but I'd say this one takes that event and adds a little more to it. This time you'll tackle Suzuka and have five full laps to reach the front of the field. Once again, avoiding penalties here is absolutely critical and can mean a victory if you do and a seemingly impossible race if you don't. Do not take shortcuts, whether it's completely your intent or not, and be careful of ramming and contact penalties with other cars. Shortcut penalties to watch out for include all corners in the S bends at the beginning, the two corners before reaching the bridge, and the final chicane including both corners -- don't be tempted to take a little cut while you're moving at low speeds. Also be sure not to take a wide exit at the high speed corner before the final chicane as well or you may receive a penalty. Be sure you're running at 750PP before the race and get ready for one aggressive drive. You'll need to be driving at the limit here but that doesn't mean driving like a maniac. If you just can't do it you just need more practice since this is a difficult course. If you're driving one of the tuned Lotuses, you'll really need to throw your car into the corners, especially in the S bends, to get a lot of time back that you'll lose on the straights. It will be a lot easier in something like the tuned Corvette, Viper, Ford GT, or S2000 since you'll have a lot of speed on the straight and still a lot of control in the corners. Get the most you can out of slipstreaming on the straights and be very aggressive when overtaking into corners. If you're not gaining positions at least relatively quickly, you probably won't have a chance to win this race. You'll need to be gaining on the leader sector by sector to win since if you take a long time to get through the field he'll just get further ahead. For some reason the lead car seems to gain more confidence if holding the lead for a long time and it will be very hard to catch up if you take too long. That's why you should really be taking the lead by lap three or four at the latest, although you still may be able to pull it off on the final lap. The two Lancers may take you the majority of the race but they can still get it done. That's pretty much all there is to this event. It is a hard one but it just takes skill and practice. You need to be not only a great driver in this game, but you need to be able to get the most you can out of your car and you need to know this circuit very well. You must be constantly gaining time to have a chance to get to win so like I've said, you'll need to be very aggressive. I see people asking for full car setups for this event but honestly, if you can't beat this event simply by giving your car 750PP, changing other things like suspension and brakes and whatnot isn't really going to help. Increasing acceleration and lowering gear ratios may give you a small improvement but in the end it really comes down to how good you are and there's only so much I can tell you. Beyond that it just takes practice and you'll need to drive your absolute best. If you can't pull out a win at first, don't worry too much about it. Just keep trying it at later times and you should be able to slowly improve. Now all that you have left to do is beat the three remaining one car challenges. First there is the time attack event with the Mine's BNR34 Skyline GT-R and then we have the one lap challenge with the Ferrari F40 and the time attack event with the Ford GT. Chances are you don't have that much credits, especially enough to buy all these cars or even the F40 alone, so you'll probably need to redo some events to get enough cash. I suggest you try the S-9 Supercar Festival event to get as much credits as you can in limited time. It will take around five minutes each time and a win will give you 45,000 credits. It really shouldn't be that hard for you since it's on the Daytona Speedway and all you need to really do is slipstream and go all out, but there is an easier Daytona Speedway race in A class that will give you 35,000 for a win if S-9 is too difficult for you, which would be A-1. Either way, rack up some credits and purchase the Mine's BNR34 Skyline GT-R, Ferrari F40, and Ford GT (if you haven't already) so you can complete the final three challenges of S class. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ S-3 In your Mine's R34 GT-R you'll have ten minutes to beat the following target times on the Daytona Speedway: Gold: 0'47.000 Silver: 0'49.000 Bronze: 0'53.000 First of all, bronze and even silver should be no problem for you to get since this is a very simple oval track and you won't need any slipstreaming to get them, but we're aiming for gold here. This isn't that hard of a challenge and it's probably the easiest time attack event in the game. You can't tune your car for this event but that won't even matter anyway. Once you leave the pits on your out lap just try to do the best laps you can do by yourself, and if you get any chances to slipstream, make the most of them. To get gold here all you really need is a good solid lap and maybe a bit of slipstreaming. It's very helpful on the final straight but of course it will also really help when starting a new lap and especially on the other straightaway (the one that's actually completely straight). An important part of getting a quick lap time is how you go through the bends, and this depends a lot on your entry as well as your exit of course. You should always be entering corners from the outside wall and gradually moving in as the apex of the bend opens up to the point where you can really hold the accelerator the rest of the way. You can either ease the accelerator as you enter the corner and cruise towards the inside of the track as you wait for the right time to go flat out again, or still keep some power as you wait for that key moment. Another way is to tap the brakes lightly for a fraction of a second as you enter and then wait for the pre-apex moment to get back all the way on the accelerator as you head towards the exit. When you start accelerating after letting off the gas you should find yourself hanging around the left yellow line during the corners and you should be staying along this line for a decent amount of time until you approach the exit. Now you should be steering left all the way here so you can't really control it if you're not in the right position, so you really should try to get that positioning when accelerating from the middle of the track. If you start to slightly move off it when going flat out well before the corner exit, ease the gas for a bit so you can get back on it. If you move to this line too quickly though, it won't be as effective as when you wait until the time the apex starts to open up when you move in from the outside. When you reach the exit you will start to naturally move away from the line towards the wall since the banking has finished. Just make sure you don't bump the wall. Always stay clear of the barriers, especially on the exits, or you may get a penalty and ruin your lap and maybe even the next one due to the change in speed, depending on your position. If you find your car really starting to climb back up the banking towards the exit, you may hit the wall if you keep going flat out, so let off enough so that you can go flat out back onto the straight if that's your case. It's important to set yourself up so that doesn't happen however, if you want to get a great lap. So it's really up to you to drive laps as fast as you can around the oval and then getting lucky with some well-positioned slipstreaming, which is probably the most helpful coming off the final corner and/or on the final stretch. S-6 This is arguably the hardest event in the game and definitely the most challenging one lap mission. You'll start at the back of a 16 car field on Suzuka and you'll have one lap to pass everyone for the gold. The F40 is a very difficult car to drive since it handles rather sluggishly, so your corner entries will be extremely important here. You'll need to be very aggressive to have any chance at winning this and you'll really need to be flying through the field. You can access Quick Tune before the race to change some settings but you can't change your PP so you'll need to rely purely on your own skills for this challenge. One of the most important things in this challenge is to avoid penalties. Honestly, if you get even one penalty, you just won't be able to make it since you need to be going all out the entire way. Every time you get a penalty, I recommend you just restart right away, unless for some magical reason it doesn't really hinder you. The same goes for making any mistakes. If you slip off into the kitty litter or lose some time in the grass, you're better off just restarting. As for your strategy, you'll really need to be able to move through the field as quickly as described below to have a shot. At the beginning, get as much slipstreaming as you can off the 599 ahead of you and move around him as he starts to overtake the Aston. You need to overtake all these cars here and be 12th ahead of the IS F while entering the first corner, and it depends on your positioning and the way you take the next part of the corner on how many cars you can pass. Honestly, the best way is to take the inside path where your right wheels may be a bit on the grass due to the lack of room on the road, but be very careful that you do not move too far off the road so that you don't get a penalty. If you take the inside route and you're quick, you may be able to take 8th ahead of the F40 on the corner exit, but if you're not as coordinated and/or take the outside route around the cars you may find yourself in 9th behind the F40. If you're still behind the TVR you'll need to be passing him right away during this mini straight to have a good shot. If you're already up in 8th you should be able to pass the Mercedes here in the S bends, although it may be hard to get to the BMW here. If you're in 9th you should be able to take both the F40 and the Mercedes. You should be passing the BMW either around the end of the S bends or the next corner or long bend, and you'll need to be ahead of the Viper by the time you reach the bridge. It's very crucial that you pass the other TVR here on the rundown to to hairpin and be chasing the R8 from the exit all the way through the spoon curve. You should get some slipstream off him towards the end of the curve or the mini straight before the next corner. You need to pass him right here in this first corner so that you're bearing down on the F430 on the following straightaway. He'll have a bit of a gap so you probably won't be able to get within slipstream distance here, but brake hard enough to quickly get through the 130R corner and you should either be able to pass him on the entrance to the chicane or early after the exit. You may have a bit of a fight between him during the last corner after the chicane but stay on the inside and you should be able to get the win. Now this is a very difficult challenge so you'll just need to keep trying it if you can't beat it. You'll really need to earn this so you'll need to try to perfect the beginning section, especially that first curve before the S bends. You'll need to pass a lot of cars there and be in the middle of the field by the time you reach the S bends so that part is definitely crucial. If you don't fly through the grid there you just won't have a chance to win. From there you just need to be quick through the bends and getting any minimal slipstream through other sections of the track to reach the R8 and then the F430. It's a real challenge but it just takes practice. Expect to have a lot of trouble here but just keep at it or take a break for now and come back to it later. S-8 For the last challenge you'll be on the High Speed Ring and you will have ten minutes to beat the following target times in your Ford GT: Gold: 1'10.000 Silver: 1'12.000 Bronze: 1'20.000 Leave the pits to the track and start warming up. This is another very difficult event to get gold in and it's arguably the hardest time attack in the game. You'll really need to drive your car to the absolute maximum and at the same time get in a lot of good slipstreaming to have any chance at gold. So it really comes down to your driving skills and luck with the positioning of other cars. If you just go out and slipstream cars as they come, you won't find many cars in a row within a short distance of each other, and one car really won't be enough slipstreaming to get a gold lap in. So I suggest you slow down and wait for a group of quick cars to reach you and wait for the next lap to start slipstreaming them. You really need at least two areas of solid slipstreaming to have a shot at this. The best first place is immediately past the start/finish line at the beginning so you slipstream all the way down to the first hard left corner. That area right there where the bridge is can be another nice area to get in some slipstreaming, but during and after the tunnel is even better as you move down to the final corner, and having someone to slipstream down to the finish line will help a lot. As for your own driving, how you take the corners is very important. There are at least two corners where I suggest you slide into the entrance to keep your momentum for the exit, and that would be the first of the two corners before the tunnel and the final long left corner. Braking and throwing your car into these corners and waiting for the right time to get on the gas can be really helpful in trimming down your time, but you'll still need to rely on slipstreaming. There's not much else I can say really. This is a very difficult challenge. You'll simply need to drive as fast as you possibly can and try out different positionings of cars so you get the ultimate amount of slipstreaming. It may take many tries but like I keep saying, getting the most slipstream you possibly can for your lap is very crucial, and other than that you'll need to drive near perfectly. Now that you've finished all those events you have cleared S class. As your prize you will receive the Nissan GT-R Proto '05 and you will finally unlock the ability to purchase the Ferrari F2007 -- don't let it showing up on the screen fool you into thinking you've won it as a prize as well. You couldn't buy it even if you had the credits before, but now that you can buy it, you'll need to save up 2,000,000 credits first. I suggest playing S-1 over and over to stack up some cash, or play a bunch of online races as well. Either way, it's definitely worth the full price. At 687HP and 545kg, it's insanely quick with amazing handling and it is truly a joy to drive, so enjoy it when you finally get enough credits to buy it. Anyway, now that all four classes are cleared, the game isn't really over yet. You still have all the dealership event races to complete. __________________________________________________________________________ DEALERSHIP EVENTS [eve_d] __________________________________________________________________________ You will find a total of 17 events in the dealerships that are mostly one car races in that you can only use one car for them, however there are some races where more than one is allowed, but it must be from the same manufacturer where the event is found. Only some of the 31 dealers have events for you to compete in and you will find an Event icon to the right of the Showroom icon inside these dealers. All the other dealers will still have the icon there but it will be shaded out if there is no event. Below you'll find walkthroughs for all 17 events and while they are not numbered in the game, I've numbered them here for conveniency's sake. In order to compete in these events obviously you must first buy the cars mentioned in each walkthrough, unless you already have them. Remember that there are driving penalties in these events just like S class, so watch out. Also remember that you can use Quick Tune if you want to when doing these events, if you've already beaten A class. It's not completely necessary to increase your performance but it will certainly make it easier. Lastly, you can only use the manufacturers' cars for these races, so that excludes all tuner cars despite them technically being the same model. If you're just looking for a list of the dealership events as a reference, refer to the Events section of this FAQ. That being said, each walkthrough mentions the car(s) that will be used for the event anyway. Events you can now Complete: ____________________________ D-1 This is the Alfa Romeo Brera one-make race on the road course at Daytona. You'll start in the middle of the 16 car pack and you'll have three laps to win. This car seems to have poor braking and rather sluggish steering so make sure you don't brake too late for corners in the infield section. You should be able to pass a bunch of cars in the infield section on the first lap, and once you reach the banking on the oval again, slipstream off any cars ahead of you to pass them. This is a fairly easy race overall and it shouldn't really take more than a lap to get to first, but you'll have three anyway. D-2 Here is the Audi TT event at Suzuka. Starting in 8th position, this is a two lap race. The TT is a pretty good car that is pretty quick and it's not sluggish on the brakes or handling so it's not bad to drive. You may not exactly be flying through the grid here though, since this event is somewhat of a challenge. Stay aggressive though and make passes when you see any chances, and always slipstream on the straights and watch out for driving penalties by cutting corners. D-3 Now in your BMW 135i Coupe on the reverse High Speed Ring, you'll have five laps to win the race from the middle of the pack. Since this track relies so much on speed, slipstream as much as you can no matter where you are. It's pretty basic other than that so you should be able to get to the front of the pack within two or three laps. D-4 This Corvette Z06 race takes place on the forward High Speed Ring course over three laps. Starting in 8th, immediately begin slipstreaming off the car ahead of you. If you have a good first bend by tapping the brakes and cruising through it you can pass this whole bunch of cars before the next corner. If you can't pass any more cars the rest of the lap, stay with them until you reach the beginning straightaway again and you should be able to get a good amount of slipstreaming in. With a stock Vette this race may be a bit difficult and it may take you the full three laps to get to first, but if you tune your car it makes it a lot easier. Always stay on other cars' tails for slipstream and avoid any barrier penalties. D-5 This Daihatsu Copen race on Suzuka East is a very slow-paced event, so you'll just have to be very patient and not make mistakes. The Copen is obviously very slow but at the same time it has horrible brakes and not very good handling as well, so you'll really need to focus on keeping this thing on the driving line and especially on the course. Always maximize your slipstream and focus on getting the correct entry in the corners so you're not fighting to keep the car on the track. You have three laps to do so you need to be consistent. This is somewhat of a difficult event so you need to have a good solid race. The lead Copen may break free a bit from the pack so it's important that you catch him before he gets too far away. Something to remember here is that since your car is so slow you shouldn't be braking much at all -- in fact you should only need to apply the brakes at the first curve (both parts of it), however maybe tapping the brakes for a split second on the final corner may be necessary. A large portion of the track, if you have the right line, you can take flat out, and a bunch of other corners you'll only need to ease off the gas for a bit. If you're having difficulty in this race, you can always add a lot of power to your car in Quick Tune if you've unlocked it yet. D-6 For the Ferrari Festival you can use any Ferrari but the F2007. This is a decent challenge where you'll have three laps on Suzuka to pass seven cars. The easiest way to beat this event is with the F430 or the California, with the 599 just next in line. The stock F40 can get you through it if you're very skilled but it won't be easy, and the 512 BB just isn't powerful enough without quick tuning. That being said, using Quick Tune will easily help you get through this event with any car if you need it. Either way, with the F430, California, or the 599 you shouldn't have many problems if you can keep your car on the road. This is a fairly long event so you have some time, but if the lead car gets too far ahead you may not have enough time to catch him, so it's important to be quick from the get go. Slipstream whenever you can and drive aggressively but within the driving line. D-7 This is a High Speed Ring event with the Ford GT and it's a difficult one especially because the lead pack of cars tends to separate themselves from the others which makes it hard to catch up while not getting much slipstream. Slipstreaming is extremely important here and you'll need to be very aggressive to pass all seven cars ahead of you, especially whenever you encounter a large gap between cars. By now you should know this track fairly well so you should be able to put in solid laps. Your start is so crucial since if the lead cars get too far ahead you just won't be able to catch up while they're slipstreaming off each other. You need a good amount of slipstreaming down to the first hard corner, and a solid and quick first bend is very important as well as you'll also need to pass some cars here. Three laps on this course is not a lot so you'll need to do this very swiftly. I recommend throwing your car and sliding through the S curves before the tunnel and the final corner as this tends to give you a good bit of momentum. Remember that once you pass the lead car he may still slipstream off you so either don't let him or make sure you're still in control either way. If you don't stay aggressive he may catch up even without much slipstreaming so stay on the edge. D-8 If you've cleared the Integra Type R one lap challenge in C class you should know exactly what to do here on Daytona again. It's quite different this time though and the cars are a lot farther apart so you'll need a lot more than one lap to win, but you're starting in 8th and you'll have five laps to do it. Be patient and keep your car positioned behind the car ahead of you at all times until you can pass, and you should find that this is an easy event despite it being five laps long. You should never need to use the brakes or even let off the gas as long as you stick to the driving line, so that together with slipstreaming should give you a very simple victory. Stay clear of the barriers to avoid any penalties and before long enough you should find yourself in the lead and win the event. D-9 The Lotus Elise 111R event is one of the few races on the London track so this may be a bit challenging to you if you don't know London too well yet. The event itself however is quite simple and even with a bunch of mistakes it's fairly beatable. Just keep pace with all the other 111Rs and pass them through the corners or on the straights whenever they're within reach. To do well at London you'll need a good first corner, early left-right chicane, and final hard right corner all the way down to the finish line past the final chicane, so work on those areas the most. D-10 This RX-7 event is a two lap race on the Daytona road course. Be careful not to overshoot the first corner since it is very easy to do, instead braking early and having a good entry. It's important to have good stints in the infield, but the oval is where you'll be gaining the most time while slipstreaming past everyone. All in all this event is an easy one. If you can't pass anyone in the infield, you should be able to on the oval and by out braking them before the chicane. D-11 For the AMG Mercedes-Benz SL 55 event you'll be in a three lap Suzuka race. Getting past the first bunch of cars should be an easy task and the leader should really be the only car you have some trouble with if any at all, since he tends to separate himself from the rest as the race goes on. Just stick with him and while it may take longer than it did to pass the other cars, you should get him eventually. Simple race all in all -- you just need to know Suzuka and be consistent with your driving and avoid penalties. D-13 The Mini Cooper event is another one that takes place on the London circuit so it's important that you're familiar with the track. You'll notice right away that the Mini is a pretty quick machine, but don't let that distract you into the first corner where it's very easy to brake too late and bump into the wall. This race as a whole is not too difficult and you'll have three laps to pass the five cars ahead of you. Stay on the driving line and you should be okay to win the event. D-14 The event for the godzilla Nissan GT-R takes place on the Fuji Speedway F setup over three laps. You should be very familiar with the GT-R by now so this event shouldn't be much of a challenge. Always slipstream down the massive main straight but brake early enough so you don't go flying past the first corner. The GT-R is the best handling car in the game so corners should be quite simple to make some ground in. That being said, don't take any shortcuts to avoid any penalties, and also don't ram your opponents or you may get penalized for that too. You'll have three laps to win the race but since the GT-R is so user-friendly you should be in first place well before the race is finished. D-15 In your Renault Clio you'll be racing on Suzuka East over five laps. Starting in 8th, you'll need to be quick and consistent over this short course since the Clio isn't really that fast. Stick to the driving line and avoid getting any penalties. Slipstream the most you can on the straight and drive the Clio to the fullest you can. You shouldn't be using the brakes that much here outside of the first long curve -- in other places a short let off or tap of the brakes should be enough. D-16 This event is the Suzuki Swift Sport race on Eiger Nordwand. You'll start 6th here on this short course and you'll have only two laps to finish, so you'll need to know your way through this course fairly well. It's important to make ground during the corners since your opponents slow down quite a bit for them, but you'll also need to be quick on the short straights where a little bit of slipstreaming may help here and there. You'll need to be well coordinated and familiar with this track and while it may be a slow-paced race you should be able to win it if you're consistent. D-17 For the final dealer event you'll be using a Volkswagen Golf V GTI -- make sure you buy the V model ('05) and not the IV since you can only use the V. Racing on Fuji Speedway GT over two laps, your path to first should be quite straightforward. Slipstream whenever you can and don't miss the first corner. Other than that don't take shortcuts and just simply stick to the driving line. This is a fairly easy race and while the lead cars may get a bit of a gap during the race it shouldn't take that long to catch up to them and two laps should be enough. And that's it. After completing these dealer events you won't receive any prize cars or anything else. If you've already completed the four main classes of the game and these dealer events, you've completed the entire game. If you haven't gotten all golds, I suggest you try to do so. There is no reward for it but it's always great to brush up your skills and have the true feeling of completing the game. If you don't have the F2007 yet but have it unlocked (complete S class), that's another thing to aim for. It costs 2,000,000 credits but it's definitely worth it and has great physics and really flies through tracks. Check out the online events every once in a while as they'll change every now and then. Another thing to do is time trials in Arcade as well as the new drift trial mode. If you're interested in checking out some other cars you may not already have, refer to the Mandatory and Notable Cars section which goes over essentially all the interesting cars in the game that you should try. Anyway, this completes the walkthrough for this game, so now it's just time to have fun until Gran Turismo 5 comes out. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 9. P R I Z E C A R L I S T [gt5p_09] __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ Prize cars are staple in the Gran Turismo series however this time around there are only four of them. It's somewhat understandable since this is just a prologue of Gran Turismo 5, however there are only four prize cars because of the way the game is set up (needing to beat 10 events to beat a class and unlock a car), not because of the length of the game. Anyway, below are the prize cars and how to get them. Prize for Completing Class C: Daihatsu OFC-1 '07 Prize for Completing Class B: BMW Concept 1 Series tii '07 Prize for Completing Class A: Nissan Skyline Coupe Concept '07 Prize for Completing Class S: Nissan GT-R Proto '05 In order to complete a class, you must finish every event in the class with at least a bronze trophy. There are no prizes for getting gold in everything except bragging rights and your own satisfaction. Upon completing class A you will also unlock an ending movie and the Quick Tune menu, and when you complete class S you will unlock the ability to purchase the Ferrari F2007, however you will still have to earn enough credits and buy it yourself. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 10. M A N D A T O R Y A N D N O T A B L E C A R S [gt5p_10] __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ This section contains two sections within it. The first goes over all the cars you will have to purchase to complete class C, B, A, and S, as well as all of the dealership events. Then the next section is purely about fun by suggesting other cars that you should check out at some point in the game or once you've completed everything. That includes some cars you'll have to purchase together with many you won't but should anyway, just for the fun of it. MANDATORY CARS __________________________________________________________________________ The following are cars you will have to buy to get through the four main classes and what events to use them for. For explanations of why to choose certain cars for certain events, refer to the appropriate section of the walkthrough. Some of the listed events can also be completed with other cars in the chart however I've listed them in the way I would recommend you use the cars in that you complete all the events you can with the cars you have before purchasing other cars. However, for a more elaborate list on what mandatory cars can and should be used for each event in each class, refer to the list below the dealership listing of cars. Car When to Purchase Events to Complete __________________________________________________________________________ Honda Integra Type R '04* Class C C-1, C-4, C-5, C-7, C-8, C-9, C-10, B-1, B-4, B-6, B-7, B-10 Suzuki Cappuccino '95 Class C C-2, C-3, C-6 __________________________________________________________________________ Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX GSR '05 Class B B-3, A-5, A-9 Nissan GT-R '07* Class B B-2, B-5, B-8, B-9, A-1, A-4, A-7, A-10 __________________________________________________________________________ Ford GT '06* Class A A-2, A-6, S-8 BMW M3 Coupe '07 Class A A-3 Ferrari F430 '06* Class A A-8, S-2, S-5, S-9 __________________________________________________________________________ Mine's BNR34 Skyline GT-R '06 Class S S-1, S-3, S-4, S-7, S-10 Ferrari F40 '92* Class S S-6 __________________________________________________________________________ * - these cars can also be used for dealership events. Choose between the F430 and the F40 for the Ferrari Festival (F430 is recommended) and the other three cars for their own events. [Note:] The Ford GT itself is not necessarily needed until S class, however you need to buy an American Muscle car for class A, so buying it for those events is the best way strategically since it saves you from buying another car. In addition to these cars you will also need to buy the following cars for the 13 remaining dealership events. Note the starred message above to complete the other four dealership events. Alfa Romeo Brera Sky Window 3.2 JTS Q4 '06 Audi TT Coupe 3.2 quattro '07 BMW 135i Coupe '07 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 '06 Daihatsu Copen Active Top '02 Lotus Elise 111R '04 Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A '02 Mercedes-Benz SL 55 AMG '02 Mini Cooper-S '06 Renault Clio Sport V6 24V '00 Suzuki Swift Sport '07 TVR Tuscan Speed Six '00/TVR Tamora '02 Volkswagen Golf V GTI '05 Adding up these 14 cars plus the 9 in the above list, that makes for a total of 23 cars you will need to purchase to complete every event in the game. The following is a list of each event and which mandatory car can be used for each. It is similar to the first list however that one only listed events once with the recommended car to use. This list gives you more of a variety to choose from between the mandatory cars, however also keeping in mind what cars you have at the time you're completing the classes. Therefore a car you'll buy in a later class will not be mentioned since it's not even recommended for purchase in a lower class. Lastly, cars that technically can be used for events but aren't listed are either just not good enough or recommended. This list includes some cars you'll have to purchase anyway for some events as well as some others that you'll never need to buy but are definitely worth checking out. Acura NSX '91 _____________ Credits: 80,000 Power: 270HP Weight: 1365kg This is a definite classic from the 90s with a chassis designed with aid of three time Formula One World Champion Ayrton Senna. It's not quite up to the level of the Honda NSX Type R but it is still a quick car in the Japanese Gentleman's Agreement 276 horsepower range. It's a very fun car to drive with the in-car view. Aston Martin DB9 Coupe '06 __________________________ Credits: 181,860 Power: 449HP Weight: 1710kg This is a beautiful looking luxury car with a high powered engine under the hood so overall it is quite an exciting car. The DB9 is quick but it just feels really good through the corners so it's very fun to drive. It offers a very smooth ride and is always a pleasant sight to look at while driving. Audi R8 4.2 FSI R tronic '07 ____________________________ Credits: 166,700 Power: 414HP Weight: 1560kg Audi's finest recent achievement. The R8 has a high-powered V8 and is a very beautiful car. This version has the shift paddles instead of a manual gearbox. It costs a lot more than the GT-R, Corvette, and Vipers, but still a lot less than the better Ferraris. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 '06 __________________________ Credits: 94,500 Power: 503HP Weight: 1421kg This is a very powerful modern American muscle car with similar performance to the Nissan GT-R and Ferrari F430. It's not the quickest car through the corners but it does have a lot of speed with a V8 under the hood. This is also a great car to use for the American Muscle events in A class, and there is also a dealership event for it as well. Citroën GT By Citroën '08 _________________________ Credits: 1,000,000 Power: 778HP Weight: 1400kg This is an interesting one. The GT is a concept car designed by Polyphony Digital and Citroën that was introduced at the 2009 Paris Auto Show. It is a very unique car both mechanically and visually. It has one gear which is simply drive, however it is a very quick car, second to only the F2007. It's hard to drive since it only has one gear so you can't downshift to help you through the corners. Instead you'll have to brake a bit earlier than normal, but the car does make up for it for sure on the straights. Dodge Viper GTS '02 ___________________ Credits: 90,400 Power: 449HP Weight: 1569kg The classic Viper. I don't think it's really a stretch to say that this is the best looking Viper ever made. Some may also have some love for the original RT/10, but the classic stripes down the center together with its beautiful design make this car very special. Unfortunately this model doesn't have the original Viper GTS Blue but it still looks great. Beyond that, it has a V10 engine and is a very quick car that is also fun to drive with good stability. Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe '06 ___________________________ Credits: 99,770 Power: 509HP Weight: 1565kg This is of course the newer design of the Viper, and with this model you can get the Viper GTS Blue colour with the white stripes and it looks great. It also has a V10 and is a bit quicker than the GTS. Ferrari 599 '06 _______________ Credits: 320,300 Power: 611HP Weight: 1580kg What can you say about a Ferrari V12? While this may not be the best V12 Ferrari has put out recently, it's still a beast. With 12 screaming cylinders behind you while you drive, it's a joy to hear and feel, however the 599 is a heavy car so it is a bit more sluggish than the likes of the F430 and therefore it's harder to drive, but it certainly is faster. Ferrari F430 '06 ________________ Credits: 243,200 Power: 483HP Weight: 1450kg This is arguably the car you'll have the most fun with in the game. You will have to buy the F430 for A class but even if you didn't it's a must buy anyway (it can also be used for the Ferrari Festival dealership event). But anyway, the car has a V8 engine and is pretty fast in a straight line but it has a great cornering ability and is very quick through the curves. The car also sounds great and looks beautiful, with a similar design as the earlier 360 Modena but arguably even better. Ferrari F40 '92 _______________ Credits: 450,000 Power: 478HP Weight: 1100kg Here is a classic Ferrari supercar. Surprising to some, it only has a V8 albeit with twin turbos. This car just looks absolutely amazing in the game and Polyphony Digital have created probably the best looking car ever in any videogame as of yet. With the in-car view you can see its stripped interior (since it was designed to be as light as possible) and a classic looking Ferrari steering wheel. While it's still a quick Ferrari and was clearly top of the line back in the early 90s, all the other Ferraris except the 512 BB perform better in the end. The F40 is a bit sluggish through the corners and a hard car to drive quickly, but it's just so damn beautiful that it's worth taking it for a drive. You'll need to purchase it anyway to complete the one lap challenge in S class which you may have a lot of trouble with as well. Ferrari 512BB '76 _________________ Credits: 102,500 Power: 355HP Weight: 1400kg The 512 Berlinetta Boxer is an older Ferrari with a flat 12 engine, and you'll find it at a cheap price just over 100,000 credits. And despite the 12 cylinders, it's easily the lowest powered Ferrari and also the least quick of them all. It's still a classic Ferrari though so it's worth checking out, especially at its price. I mean, a Ferrari is a Ferrari. Ferrari California __________________ Credits: 300,000 Power: 453HP Weight: 1450kg The California is somewhat of a throwback to the original Ferrari 250 GT California. Introduced at the 2009 Paris Auto Show, it is the first Ferrari to ever have a V8 engine in the front of it and it has a retractable hard top roof allowing it to be a convertible, the configuration you will race with. It looks beautiful in light blue and it has a nice looking tan interior. Overall this car is very impressive and it performs around the level of the F430 and it really does seem to be better a lot of the time. It has a 7-speed twin clutch gearbox with shift paddles so it's rather quick off the line, but it is a bit more loose than the F430 so it can take corners better. Ferrari F2007 _____________ Credits: 2,000,000 Power: 687HP Weight: 545kg This one is very self explanatory. The F2007 is the 2007 Formula One Driver and Constructor's World Champion driven by Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen, the latter of whom won the Driver's Championship. It is by far the best car in the game in every category. It is quick as hell, it brakes on a dime, and it corners like you couldn't believe. Overall the car simply drives like a dream but what else can you expect from an F1 car? Shockingly it has only a 2.4 liter V8 but being light as a feather makes it really fly. It is available in two different reds with both the number 5 and 6 on the chassis, for Massa and Raikkonen respectively. You can only use Professional physics with this car but it really has its own set of physics anyway and it is very fun to drive. It will definitely take some adapting to at first but you'll get the hang of it eventually. By the way, you'll need to clear S class to unlock the ability to buy this car, and once you do that you'll need to save up 2,000,000 credits to buy it. Ford GT '06 ___________ Credits: 149,880 Power: 550HP Weight: 1451kg The Ford GT is the fastest stock production car in the game, and while it does cost a lot more than the Nissan GT-R, Corvette Z06, and the two Vipers, it's much less than the better Ferraris and even cheaper than the R8, so it's really a steal at its price. You will need it for S class but it's more timely to buy in A class for the American Muscle events, and you'll also have a dealership event for it. The Ford GT just annihilates everything on straightaways and it doesn't even let up in the corners, so it is definitely a car to be feared unless you have it. It's handling isn't as good as say the GT-R, but at the same time because it's so quick, cornering is really no problem for it. Honda NSX Type R '02 ____________________ Credits: 119,570 Power: 276HP Weight: 1270kg This is essentially a second generation of the NSX although it's still quite similar in looks and performance. With that being said that, it actually is a step above the Acura. I just think this is a very fun car to drive and if you take it for a spin with the in car view you can really get a thrill out of it. While it is not all the way up to the level as the exotics like the F430, GT-R, etc., I'd say this is really the best of the sports cars, topping even the R34 Skyline GT-R and RX-7, and it's therefore the car that will give you the best results in the Japanese Championship in A class. Jaguar XK Coupe Luxury '06 __________________________ Credits: 113,000 Power: 299HP Weight: 1690kg This car is a bit similar to the Aston Martin in looks and performance. It actually even looks a bit like a Maserati at the front. Anyway, this car performs quite well overall and has good stability. Inside the cockpit you'll also find a beautiful tan leather interior. Lexus IS F '07 ______________ Credits: 76,600 Power: 417HP Weight: 1690kg This car may surprise you. Normally Lexus cars are mostly luxury-oriented and while this IS F is, it's also an all out performance car. It is a high performance version of the Lexus IS series, adding the F to its name, and one of the most interesting things about it is that it has 8 gears. You'll never need gear 8 or even 7 for that matter so you probably would never know it had more than 6 if using automatic or even manual. Anyway, this car performs around the level of the F430, GT-R, and Corvette, although it doesn't quite have the edge of any of those cars. Lotus Elise 111R '04 ____________________ Credits: 54,400 Power: 189HP Weight: 860kg The 111R is a fun car to drive because it has such a good power to weight ratio. It weighs less than a tonne so 189HP is quite a lot of power when you factor that it. It is a fun car to throw through corners since it really allows you to do so, however at the same time it may be hard to drive because of that, in that it really pulls to the side when you turn. Lotus Elise '96 _______________ Credits: 37,600 Power: 118HP Weight: 755kg This Elise is similar to the 111R despite being almost ten years older. It has less horsepower but it's also lighter so overall it's still around the same performance level, although the edge would go to the newer 111R. But it's the same sort of things that make this car fun. It's very small and light so it has quick acceleration and is a great car for cornering. Lotus Evora ___________ Credits: 100,000 Power: 276HP Weight: 1330kg Introduced at the 2009 Paris Auto Show, the Evora concept is a pretty car. It has much more power than the other two Lotuses but it does weigh quite a bit more as well. Overall it is a quick car and looks quite good in its standard white as well as the wild Isotope Green. Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A '02 ______________________________ Credits: 40,000 Power: 276HP Weight: 1270kg The RX-7 is another Japanese great from the 90s that has pushed its way into the new millenium and it is a similar car to the NSX and Skyline. Just like those cars it has the Gentleman's Agreement limited horsepower but it has its own very sleek and curvy design and it is a smaller car than both of them. One of the biggest differences between this car and others however, is that it has a rotary engine which has proven to be quite successful and even its successor the RX-8 continues its legacy with a rotary engine. Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V-spec II Nur '02 _________________________________________ Credits: 61,000 Power: 276HP Weight: 1560kg The R34 is a must buy for every fan of Gran Turismo. The Skyline has quite a huge following and is certainly a legendary car that passes on its "GT-R" brand to the Nissan GT-R. It is a great car to use for the Japanese Championship in A class and overall it's just as fun as always to drive, although you won't get to tune it to 1000HP until GT5. Still, the RB26DETT engine is a 2.6 liter inline six with twin turbos so it's quite an exciting drive even in stock form. Nissan GT-R Proto '05 _____________________ Credits: -- Power: 447HP Weight: 1730kg This is a prototype model of the Nissan GT-R. Overall it looks fairly close to the final GT-R despite some curves and the design underneath the headlights. While it is a quick car and performs almost to the level of the GT-R, the '07 GT-R crushes it in every aspect. What a diference two years can make. Since this is just a concept prototype there is no cockpit view. This car cannot be bought and will be your prize for completing S class. Nissan R35 GT-R '07 ___________________ Credits: 77,700 Power: 473HP Weight: 1740kg This is Godzilla. The Nissan GT-R is arguably the best vehicle to ever come out of Japan. It is a car that has made a significant impact in the car industry, merging power and engineering with sophisticated technology. Unlike the earlier Nissan Skylines and other Japanese cars, the GT-R is not limited by the Gentleman's Agreement so it has 480HP. It didn't take long for the GT-R to break the world record lap time at the Nurburgring Nordschleife for a stock production car and today it has almost legendary status. Anyway, this is arguably the best overall production car in the game, and despite it only being a twin turbocharged V6, it can hold its own against the F430, 599, Z06, Viper, Ford GT, and any other production car in the game. It is by far the best handling car in the game other than the F2007 and thanks to its advanced technology it has very quick acceleration and shifts gears insanely quickly. While you will have to buy this car for B class, it's a definite must buy anyway. This car is simply amazing. TVR Tuscan Speed Six '00 ________________________ Credits: 94,800 Power: 359HP Weight: 1100kg The Speed Six is a very unique looking car with its styling but also with some of its paint colours. While you can choose normal colours, there are a few that give off a different-looking and changing tone depending on the angle, which just looks fantastic in the sunlight. Inside the car you will also find a very unique spedometer in front of you. But beyond that the Tuscan Speed Six is a quick car that handles well and overall is just fun to drive. TVR Tamora '02 ______________ Credits: 70,940 Power: 345HP Weight: 1060kg The Tamora also offers the changing tone paint jobs as the Speed Six and it also has its own very unique HUD dials. You'll find that the spedometer and tachometer move in opposite directions as you drive which is very interesting. The Tamora is a smaller car than its older brother and while it's not as powerful it is still an enjoyable car to drive as well. Amuse S2000 GT1 Turbo _____________________ Credits: 250,000 Power: 617HP Weight: 1120kg The Amuse S2000 is one of the best tuned cars in the game. Overall it is a very quick car with a solid chassis. It's not as fast as the Ford GT Test Car at the top end but nothing else really is anyway. Even so, it really is almost as fast and it's a really fun car to drive through the corners due to its stability, whereas the Ford GT is a bit unfriendly. This car also has 7 gears and an interesting red interior. When shopping for a tuned car, this one should be near the top of your list for sure. Art Morrison Corvette '60 _________________________ Credits: 250,000 Power: 537HP Weight: 1437kg Here we have a classic first generation Corvette tuned by Art Morrison. The AM Corvette has a lot of power but it's also quite heavy. Therefore it is a fast car capable of high speeds, but through corners it's very sluggish and therefore hard to drive quickly around a racetrack. For its price it's not very effective either, although it certainly is an interesting car worth messing around with. Blitz Dunlop ER34 '07 _____________________ Credits: 250,000 Power: 583HP Weight: 1252kg Here we have an R34 Skyline done up by Blitz. You may notice that this Skyline is not a GT-R model and also rear wheel drive, but it is certainly turbocharged and you'll definitely hear the turbos when you drive it. This is a very fast car thanks to those turbos -- faster than the Mine's BNR34 -- however its handling isn't quite as great. It still is a great car to drive although it may be a little stiff. Mine's BNR34 Skyline GT-R N1 base '06 _____________________________________ Credits: 200,000 Power: 592HP Weight: 1340kg The Mine's Skyline is a traditional R34 Skyline GT-R with all wheel drive and while it does have more power than the ER34, it's not as fast down the line, however it has superb handling so it is very smooth and pleasant while cornering, and therefore it really is a fun car to drive. You will need to purchase this for the S class time attack event but you should consider using it for the other tuned car events as well since it's certainly capable of winning them all. Chevrolet Corvette Z06 /Tuned _____________________________ Credits: 200,000 Power: 542HP Weight: 1140kg This is among the top of the list of the tuner cars with lots of power and stability as well. Its steering seems to be somewhat stiff but it's not really due to bad handling or anything. Either way it is a consistent cornering car and if driven properly can be a fantastic car to drive. Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe /Tuned ______________________________ Credits: 200,000 Power: 545HP Weight: 1255kg The Viper is very similar to the Corvette with almost identical horsepower, although it is around 100 kilos heavier. Overall it's pretty much as good but the Corvette gets the edge. The Viper is also a quick car as well and is great for the tuned car events. Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car ___________________________ Credits: 300,000 Power: 592HP Weight: 1165kg This really is the best tuned car in the game. It is not only the fastest in a straight line, it doesn't lose any time on the corners so it's very hard to beat. It does get a little loose in the corners however and it's easy to slide the tail out so it can be a difficult car to drive, whereas something like the S2000 is more smooth and consistent while cornering. However the sliding can be used to your advantage to drift through corners at high speeds. This car is the best choice for the tuned car events, especially the latter two which are for 750PP cars. If you know how to drive this beast it will give you the best opportunity to win. Lotus Elise 111R /Tuned _______________________ Credits: 100,000 Power: 248HP Weight: 690kg Firstly, the 111R does not have a lot of power at all, but coming in at less than 700 kilos, it is an extremely light car and that gives it a great advantage in acceleration and cornering. Almost all other tuned cars are faster on the straights, but the Lotus really shines in the corners. Now, it can be quite hard to drive since it really pulls to the side when you do turn, however you can use this to your advantage by throwing the car into corners aggressively and using your momentum to slide through. It really takes some practicing to get used to, however. Lotus Elise /Tuned __________________ Credits: 80,000 Power: 217HP Weight: 610kg This Elise is similar to the the 111R. It has less power but it's also lighter, although overall it is just a tad slower than the 111R. It is very similar mechanically though and it also pulls to the side when cornering so you can throw yourself through corners by drifting, but it can be hard to do effectively. Again, it will be slower on the straights but if you can work the magic in the corners it can be a great car to drive, albeit hard to win the later tuned car races with. Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR /Tuned _________________________________________ Credits: 60,000 Power: 346HP Weight: 1130kg This Lancer may only be 60,000, but it's a hell of a machine at that price. It's all wheel drive so it has great acceleration and control, and its speed isn't bad at all either. Overall it's a very solid package and can win you all the tuned car events if you use it right. Mitsubishi Lancer Evoluton X GSR Premium Package /Tuned _______________________________________________________ Credits: 80,000 Power: 376HP Weight: 1235kg The Evo X is even better than the X with more horsepower despite being heavier. Again, it is very quick on acceleration with four wheel drive and it is very easy to handle in the corners. It may be a harder car to have success with since overall it's not as fast as some of the big dogs but it can make you a champion if you get the most out of it. This car is a lot better than you may think. Renault Clio Sport V6 24V /Tuned ________________________________ Credits: 100,000 Power: 347HP Weight: 1070kg Here we have a relatively light small car with a mid rear engine, believe it or not. It has a good power to weight ratio and so it may surprise you a bit. Overall the Clio is very consistent and while it may not be that fast on the high end, it's very quick at lower speeds due to its weight and power. __________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________ 11.
